Goodbye Daishen Nix; Hello Tristen Newton
Jon K just said we have waived Daishen to sign Tristen Newton. Bench mob leader is gone. Discuss

Combo guard, went to UConn, won MOP a year ago.
Also older than Ant. I should be way happier about this, but Finch is never gonna use this guy, so whatever.

We will always have his pointing on the bench whenever someone made a dunk. Nix never did anything for me on the court, worth a shot on Newton. Just watching a few of his highlights looks like he can do a bit of everything and threw several lobs to Clingan.

These are the types of moves Connelly makes to bring me back to the board after a hiatus.
A couple thoughts about this very minor move.
Nix seems like a do a lot type of guy he isn't a blend into the woodwork type player he is gonna be doing something. That's both good and bad. Both guys seems like players that can do a little of everything. If feel like Nix I know can defend but honestly if you want a guy to defend and play some guard minutes why not play Clark? It's not like Nix has shown he can shoot and maybe even score efficiently. He has shot well from the FT line in the G-league unlike Newton who shot over 80% every year in college. Is Newton a guy that may have a better overall game to fit in with other players? That's my guess.
If you value Newton then Connelly basically just added a guy from the 2nd round of the 2024 draft that we got very little out of despite having a good pick. This is the type od stuff Connelly seems to do well at.
I liked Nix but also knew he had flaws. These guys honestly seem a bit similar but it seems to me Newton has a better overall resume. It will be interesting to see how he does in Iowa.

Monster!!!
I was wondering where we lost you a few days ago. It took swapping Nix for Newton to get you back?!?
Glad to have you back! Hopefully the Wolves make your return worthwhile.

Newton NCAA tournament highlights. He looks like a terrific passer with an excellent feel for the game. He appears to have a knack for lob passes. Sadly, many of the terrific successful lobs you’ll see among these highlights would have been fumbled by Rudy. Yes, successful lob catches by an assortment of college players would have been fumbled by the NBA center who gets $30 million per year for the next three seasons.
In any event, I think this was a nice move by TC. I don’t know whether Newton will pan out and make a meaningful positive contribution to the MN Wolves, but I see enough there to have hope. He seems like a better fit than Nix for what we need at PG.

Not only that, but Newton requested to be waived because he thought he could find a better path to the NBA somewhere else. It obviously has no impact for the Wolves this year, but TC keeping the shelves of future potential stocked.Monster wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2025 9:59 am Hurely claims the Wolves really liked Newton.
