The Miami Heat are the favorites to land De’Aaron Fox, per @BovadaOfficial

Miami Heat +450
San Antonio Spurs +500
Minnesota Timberwolves +500
Houston Rockets +600
Orlando Magic +650
Denver Nuggets +650
LA Clippers +1000
New Orleans Pelicans +1400

[Charania] JUST IN: The Sacramento Kings expected to open up talks to potentially deal All-Star De'Aaron Fox ahead of Feb. 6 trade deadline, sources tell ESPN. There will be plenty of suitors, but it's believed that Fox has a target destination in mind ahead of 2026 free agency.

I don't think there is a way to get it done this season, unless there is a way to drop under the 2nd tax apron but it could be done in the summer if Sacramento waits.

The Jimmy Butler saga is the biggest trade story at the moment ahead of the trade deadline. According to reports, the Suns and/or Heat have talked to several teams about a three, four, or five-team deal involving Butler. Keep an eye on Minnesota in a Butler deal. In the offseason, the Heat were one of the teams that expressed interest in trading for Julius Randle, per SNY sources. Randle has remained on the Heat’s radar during the Butler saga, sources say. I don’t know if there are any active trade talks between Minnesota and Miami. But the two teams have been in touch on Butler trades.
Jimmy can't be traded to Minnesota unless they do some serious cap gymnastics to get under the 2nd apron in the process. I'm not surprised that the teams have been in contact though, as I believed Julius would be someone that Miami is interested in. I'm interested in what TC is targeting.
I don't think they are suggesting Butler to Minnesota, just that Minnesota will be part of the bigger trade. Randle would go to Miami, Butler would go to another team, and Minnesota would get one or more pieces back.

That's what I figured but the wording was questionable. The idea that Miami is interested in having Julius is good for the Wolves, nonetheless.

60WinTim wrote: Sun Jan 26, 2025 8:41 pm Actually, kek, the Wolves will not be a second apron team after July 1st. They won't even be a 1st apron team! Between the 10% increase in the salary cap and related thresholds, Randle's 3 mil declining contract, and Rudy's 9 mil pay cut from signing an extension, the Wolves salaries situation will be much improved.
Tim Correct me if I am wrong but wouldn't Naw cap hold put the wolves in the second apron until he signs elsewhere or we renounce his rights. I am not as confident on this one as I am in other cap related items
I believe NAW's cap hold would count but it will likely be less than he will sign for since the cap hold will be based off his current salary. Sportrac has his cap hold at just over 8 million.
Cap holds are only used to determine cap space, and have no effect on the apron - that’s payroll. This is why we haven’t removed Evan Turner’s $27.9 mil cap hold; we haven’t been an under-the-cap team for years.

Also, keep in mind that your team becomes hard-capped at the apron when you make a transaction. We aren’t technically a second apron team, but we are so far over the apron that we can’t complete a transaction and make that apron boundary. Apron status is determined after the transaction is completed.

Correct. If we can’t complete a transaction that drops us under apron restrictions, we can’t add salary in a trade, and we can’t aggregate salaries. The only two salaries we have that are greater than Fox’s are Ant’s (he’s not being traded) or Gobert (CBA ineligible to be traded after his extension).

The only way possible would be to cut so much salary we would no longer be an apron team, but there really isn’t a lot of cap space left in trading partners since the CBA required teams to bring their payroll up to the minimum before the season started. Technically, a deal could look like Randle + Jaden for Fox and (someone giving us tons of payroll relief), but that’s next to impossible.

Go to Vegas and bet against Fox ending up in MIN.

Sorry to poop on this, but I don’t believe MIN can reacquire SloMo for one year.

Technically, it looks like we traded him in July (we have a TPE, it’s use limited by apron rules), but Spotrac’s trade checker doesn’t seem to have an issue with us taking him back, so ..?

Wolves are being linked to Lonzo Ball. Could be a component of a Butler trade.

Ahh! Good point! I keep forgetting that SloMo was technically a sign-and-trade. Thanks for pooping on that idea! :)

I'll just have go back to my trade that has us sending out Randle and the Detroit pick for Collins and Kessler. It helps now, and adds another piece for ANT 2.0.

BTW, welcome to our newest member, shrink!!!

How did you find us? Did you have any previous connection to us at either the old ESPN or Enjin boards?

My latest 5-team trade:

- Toronto is looking to help out on the Butler trade, and they would like a piece to pair with Barnes. Think they would trade Brown (expiring) for Wiggins? Heck, they may even add a draft pick to grease the wheels!
- Utah has John Collins with a player option. And they apparently are willing to part with Kessler for the right amount of draft capital. Would they trade Collins and Kessler for Brown (expiring), Looney (expiring) and Kyle Anderson (2 years left at less than 10 mil per year), plus some decent draft capital (including our Detroit pick)?
- Miami wants off of Butler. They have been linked to Randle in the past. Rozier has been a disappointment thus far, and would welcome some PG help. Would they trade Butler for Randle and Dennis Schroder?
- Golden State has a desperation to do something to pair with Steph. Butler has been linked to them on multiple occasions. They prefer to hang onto Kuminga, but they have to pony up a bunch of players to match Butler's salary, and still have salary room to fill out their roster after making a 4-for-1 trade. Would they trade Wiggins, Schroder, Kyle Anderson and Looney for Butler?
- Minnesota has a Randle "fit" problem, but still need a vet PF to backup NAZ. Plus they eventually need a Rudy replacement for ANT 2.0. Would they trade Randle and the Detroit pick for Collins and Kessler?

Given what each team is looking for, this trade makes entirely too much sense. At least for me...

Would the Wolves be willing to move Julius, Jaden, Dilly and the Pistons 1st for D Fox Trey Lyles and McDermott? Lyles and McDermott are expiring. Julius would go to Detroit with Alex Len and their pick back. Jaden, Dilly and Tobias would go to Sac. I feel like Sac would be really enticed by that.

Would Foxy and Ant be it?

Fox/Mike
Ant/DDV
NAW/TJ
NAZ/Minott/Lyles
Rudy/Garza
