Wolves sign bones hyland (2-way)
Wolves sign bones hyland (2-way)
After converting Jaylen Clark, the Minnesota Timberwolves plan to sign free agent guard Bones Hyland to a two-way NBA deal, agent Austin Walton told ESPN. Hyland will be reunited with Wolves president Tim Connelly, who drafted him in Denver where he was a two-time Rising Star.

Ugghhhhh!
Fairly benign deal, but I just don't see what the infatuation with this guy is.

He has some of that Lavine swagger, just doesn't have the talent. He's about a league average 3pt shooter, so nothing to write home about. I would have preferred another big on a two way.

Bones Hyland sucks. I once took a flyer on him in a fantasy game a year or two ago when he was with Clippers and he literally looked like he had deer in the headlights and he had no idea what he was doing. He kept turning ball over and throwing brick after brick. He doesn't look like an NBA player. I would rather have kept Nix.

Seemed like a promising player early in Denver. Averaged 11 ppg as a rook. I think there were some Jordan Clarkson vibes there. Just stagnated... plus he had a lousy attitude.
Can he do more than an occasional scoring outburst? Worth a two-way flyer. Very little to lose.

I was much higher on his potential a couple years ago but they signed a guy to a 2-way deal that's played over 182 games and over 3000 minutes in the NBA for a couple teams and all of those are teams over. 500. There is some issues with his career efficiency but this year in 20 games with the Clippers he has a career high .569 true shooting percentage which is pretty good for a scoring guard and that's with a pretty bad 40% 2 point percentage.rapsuperstar31 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2025 1:33 pmHe has some of that Lavine swagger, just doesn't have the talent. I don't have high hopes for him but maybe this is a spot where he could flourish. The Wolves have a bunch of guys that fit in offensively and there has been times over the past few years they could use a guy that can get a bucket. Hyland is willing to shoot and a lot of that is volume 3 point shooting and his career percentages are in line with someone who I don't mind taking those shots. At this point of the season it's a 20 something game tryout on a 2-way it seems like a decent gable and the Wolves could have a need for a shot creating guard. If he has improved at all on defense that would be nice. I have no idea on that although his steal rate and blocks this year are nice.
Overall I like the move well enough and more than if he was signed to an NBA deal as he is a 2-way guy and Clark gets a spot which seems like he has deserved. I'm behind on watching games but Bones Hyland brought me back!!! lol

Bones with 28pts, 6 assists, 4 rebounds and 5 steals in his Iowa Wolves debut in a loss.
Re: Wolves sign bones hyland (2-way)
Bones 39/5/5 today in his 2nd G-league game. Reminder he is younger then TSJ
Re: Wolves sign bones hyland (2-way)
But the guys he was guarding were 41/7/7

Just kidding, I have no problems with this signing. Defensively challenged and not a great facilitator, but you can never have too many shooters.
