Ha, start printing those WS tickets now! I think a lot of us were concerned which of our 5 first basemen were going to end up there, but now we know...it's Paulsen!

I asked my brother if he had seen the signing and he said it makes sense at the very least for minor league depth. Obviously the Twins have no shortage of options at 1b. It's sorta interesting that Paulson was interested but I suppose he didn't exactly have a lot of offers.

Here's the problem with these deals: they effect the overall budget. Every $500k spent on one of the guys who isn't going to be there opening day is $500k they aren't spending somewhere else. My brother told me that on the Radio pregame show before the last game (the one with Buxton's ITPHR), Dan Gladden said The Twins pay their minor league instructors $30k/year. What the fuck? So not only do you lose them to other teams, you lose them to SuperAmerica?!?!?!

looks like we might still add a pitcher or 2.

I love having a couple nerds in the front office...while I love the romance of the cigar chomping lifer scout grunting "I really like that kid", the statistical approach has proven to be a winner so far. I gotta believe the decision making is going to improve going forward.

And yet it's pretty obvious these guys aren't just looking at numbers as Levine says so in this article. I read somewhere that Hawkin,s Torii and Cuddeyer submitted lists of vet players they recommended that were still in the league that could help the team as vets/leaders. It's good to get a variety of input and it seems the new guys are doing just that.

Very good point, monster...it's a question of a balance. The Moneyball approach has had some success, but has also fallen short in some areas. A combo platter of analytics and the wisdom of good baseball people seems to be the ticket...and the Twins have been lacking in the first category for years.

Yay a vet reliever! It sounds like they expect Park to clear waivers. If someone does claim him I guess the upside would be they don't have to pay him but he only gets around 3 million a season. It sounds like he still has minor league options so I would like him to stick around for now.

The #MNTwins have signed Matt Belisle to a one-year contract. To make room on the 40-man the @Twins have DFA'd Byung Ho Park.
