A seemingly odd fit all season, Randle's financial options looked a bit limited a few months ago.
- Would the Wolves try to resign him to an extension? Near the $30M he made on his last deal?
- Would Randle pick up his one-year extension at $31M because of a meh market for him?
- Maybe the Wolves just pay Naz Reid instead.
_____________
Fast forward through two playoff rounds...
How much will it take to resign Randle now? His value has skyrocketed in the past 3 weeks.
How much money is Randle making?
Re: How much money is Randle making?
I've been on and off the "keep Randle" train several times throughout the season. Whenever I was on the train, my best case scenario was signing an extension starting somewhere between the 25 and 30 mil range. But given how well he has played since coming back from injury and here in the playoffs, I think it is more likely he signs a 3 to 4 year extension starting at roughly 31 mil -- the amount he would get if he simply picked up his player option.
Whatever Randle signs for will dictate how much the Wolves can realistically spend on NAZ. I see it as a tossup as to whether the Wolves and NAZ will reach an agreement...

For context... Jordan Poole, Immanual Quickly and Jerami Grant make more than that.
50+ players will make more than $31M annually next season. If Randle stays close to the level he has been vs. OKC or beyond... I think negotiations start close to $40M.

You could be right. And if that's what it takes, I would still do it. But I think that means bye-bye NAZ...AbeVigodaLive wrote: ↑Thu May 15, 2025 5:09 pmFor context... Jordan Poole, Immanual Quickly and Jerami Grant make more than that.

ANT will make 45.5. Rudy will make 35. Jaden comes in at 25. 40 mil for Randle seems high to me with today's cap situation. Hopefully it's more in the 30 to 35 range.
Re: How much money is Randle making?
The number Randle is willing to take might depend on the length of the contract. If the Wolves are willing to go 4 years (just as an example) Randle might be willing to lock in for a lower amount. Of course that could also mean Randle could lock himself into a possible bargain deal with a rising cap etc. The Wolves could also get creative and have only part of a future year/s salary guaranteed similar to what Horford had when he signed with the Sixers and then ended up with the Celtics. It just seems like Randle is gonna want to stay here with this group and especially Finch if the Wolves offer anything reasonable and I think they will.60WinTim wrote: ↑Thu May 15, 2025 5:20 pmYou could be right. The Wolves have Gobert and Conley that took extensions that when signed were below the market of what they possibly could have gotten. They still got a good amount but they could have gotten more. I could see Randle seeing value in that. There is a chance he could fall off and not be as good a couple years from now. If Conley was a FA this off-season I don't think he would be getting 10 million. Of course Randle is younger but anyways. The last couple months especially the playoffs have been huge for Randle. He way some teams look at him may have changed. It seems like his salary has gone up at least a couple million probbaly over even what he was doing in the regular season which was pretty good. Let's see how the rest of the postseason plays out.

There are very few teams who could sign him for decent money this offseason, so he is likely to have to take less if he wants a long term deal. He did also say he only cares about winning at this point. I doubt he goes to a bottom feeder as he'd simply hate it. Is all the money in the world worth hating your job? We might say so, but he is already wealthy.AbeVigodaLive wrote: ↑Thu May 15, 2025 5:09 pmFor context... Jordan Poole, Immanual Quickly and Jerami Grant make more than that.

That is the most fascinating part, Brooklyn is the only team that would be able to pay him $35 million, I believe the Pistons and pelicans are the only two other teams projected to have even $25 million in cap space!Wolvesfan21 wrote: ↑Thu May 15, 2025 6:47 pmThere are very few teams who could sign him for decent money this offseason, so he is likely to have to take less if he wants a long term deal. I doubt Brooklyn would even want him considering they are far away from contention. Pistons maybe, but like you said, they also don't have a lot to spend either. It's a bad year to be an NBA FA.BloopOracle wrote: ↑Thu May 15, 2025 7:05 pmThat is the most fascinating part, Brooklyn is the only team that would be able to pay him $35 million, I believe the Pistons and pelicans are the only two other teams projected to have even $25 million in cap space!Wolvesfan21 wrote: ↑Thu May 15, 2025 6:47 pmThere are very few teams who could sign him for decent money this offseason, so he is likely to have to take less if he wants a long term deal. Yes, that's going to be an important factor in Ju's negotiation. I also see him as not a typical NBA player full of ego and life style. He's a family man...look how he lights up around his kids post game. And he and his wife are country people who reportedly weren't happy raising their kids in a concrete jungle. He's not going to Brooklyn. Money is important to all NBA players, but Ju seems to have a maturity about him that lets him put the dollars in proper perspective. I think he realizes whether he gets $25 or $35 million has no meaningful impact on his financial situation...especially if he gets multiple years. I think he would love 4 years, $100 million, if:Wolvesfan21 wrote: ↑Thu May 15, 2025 6:47 pmThere are very few teams who could sign him for decent money this offseason, so he is likely to have to take less if he wants a long term deal. -it means staying in the kind of environment he and his wife want to raise their kids in
-he gets to play with Finchy
-he gets to play with a winning team bringing almost everyone back
-he gets to see and help Ant develop into whatever he's going to become
-he realizes taking a discount increases the chance of keeping players we need to win
Maybe I'm reading Ju completely wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised at 4-100...and I think that would be very good for Randle and the Wolves.

Re: How much money is Randle making?
That was a number I was thinking would be potentially accepted by him also. Between 4-100 and 4-120. Naz on the other hand has been not playing up to his standard or potential, 4-80 might be plenty fair for him to take depending on this upcoming playoff games of course. I like his offense, but he was turning it over too much and getting roasted on defense this last series. He's got to be better if we're going to win the next round. DDV and NAW also.FNG wrote: ↑Thu May 15, 2025 7:54 pmYes, that's going to be an important factor in Ju's negotiation. I also see him as not a typical NBA player full of ego and life style.
