After listening to a bunch of pods and reading a bunch of well thought-out opinions on here (except for the "Finch and Connelly are trash and you are all imbeciles!" knucklehead), I've come around to the idea that Connelly is going to want to find a more dynamic running mate for Ant at PG and that it's too much of a gamble/waiting game for that player to be Rob Dillingham or Scoot Henderson and not enough of an upgrade for it to be a Tyus or Tre Jones type.
Giannis Antetokounmpo (point power forward)
Darius Garland
Trae Young
De'Aaron Fox
Derrick White
DeJounte Murray
Giannis of course would be a long shot, but if you include Jaden in the proposal along with Dillingham, I wonder if that gets Connelly a seat at the table. The others are no picnic either in terms of the assets we'd need to include, but I do think Connelly is going to try to take a big swing this offseason.
Thoughts?
Starting PG Trade Options
Re: Starting PG Trade Options
Giannis is great, but I really don't want to see this team get older, and I'm very hesitant on moving Jaden. He is a perfect #3 type and the age that makes him a perfect running mate with Ant. Also, I don't see how Giannis flourishes as well here with Rudy sitting around the basket.Q-is-here wrote: ↑Fri May 30, 2025 2:58 pm After listening to a bunch of pods and reading a bunch of well thought-out opinions on here (except for the "Finch and Connelly are trash and you are all imbeciles!" knucklehead), I've come around to the idea that Connelly is going to want to find a more dynamic running mate for Ant at PG and that it's too much of a gamble/waiting game for that player to be Rob Dillingham or Scoot Henderson and not enough of an upgrade for it to be a Tyus or Tre Jones type.

Spurs just traded for Fox. I'd think they keep him. Murray I just don't think would be worth the assets and the Pels just acquired him as well.
Young and Garland will cost a ton and they don't play a lick of defense. They will both be hunted in the playoffs, though on offense they would take a ton of pressure off of Ant.
My favorite is actually Derrick White, and he would probably be the cheapest too. He's a little older, but solid all around. High IQ, good defensively and offensively. I think he would be the perfect vet for Dillingham to back up for a couple years. The Celtics also have a huge payroll, got bounced early, and likely would be looking to shed some $.

Re: Starting PG Trade Options
Suggs? Apparently he's available. Good defender and the right age, hometown boy.
Re: Starting PG Trade Options
Who would they even want though? They have their PF, so that removes the Randle idea. Unless Tim can swing a 3 team deal; I don't see it happening. I believe you're with me about Jaden being the other untouchable along with Ant. And if we were to move Rudy our whole team identity completely shifts, and I don't think it'd have better results.Coolbreeze44 wrote: ↑Fri May 30, 2025 3:21 pm Suggs? Apparently he's available. Maybe Naz S&T + Donte for Suggs or some of the players Q listed?
Re: Starting PG Trade Options
I agree he's a great defender and great competitor - I love guys that compete in multiple sports in high school versus all the specialization that goes on today with kids focusing on just one sport practically the day they graduate from elementary school!Coolbreeze44 wrote: ↑Fri May 30, 2025 3:21 pm Suggs? That being said, for a guy that doesn't assist much or score by the bucket-load, he sure does turn it over a lot (career 1.5:1 assist to turnover ratio, which is not good for a PG, much less a combo guard). I also think his 3-point shot is iffy at best. I just question his ability to be a strong enough threat with the ball when Ant has to get off it and needs a second shot creator/maker.
Re: Starting PG Trade Options
Yeah, all these guys have some holes in their game, but White is probably my favorite as well. He isn't an elite bucket-getter, but he isn't just a pure 3 & D guy either - he CAN get his own. He averaged 17 PPG in Boston's title run last year and 19 PPG in this year's playoffs. Could he and an unleashed Jaden essentially share the 2nd option role?TheFuture wrote: ↑Fri May 30, 2025 3:19 pmGiannis is great, but I really don't want to see this team get older, and I'm very hesitant on moving Jaden. And finally, it allows Boston to trade him to the Western Conference, which I think is preferred all else being equal.
Re: Starting PG Trade Options
Fun thread, and some interesting names on there for sure. But my take is that if Mike Conley isn't the starting PG next year on day 1, this team will not be as successful next year...unless of course Dillingham blows the coaching staff away in preseason and takes the job away. Unlikely. Kek posted that Mike had the second best net rating on the team after January 1 behind Rudy, third best in the playoffs behind Rudy and Jaden, and second best behind Rudy in the finals. Trading away assets to replace him in the starting lineup doesn't sound like something TC or Finchy would be inclined to do. I'm pretty confident we go into next season with a PG depth of Mike/Rob/Donte, and I'm satisfied with that. And if Ant, Jaden and Naz continue to improve, and we get contributions from the young guys who were not in the rotation, I think we will be better next year.
But I don't want to torpedo the thread because it's the time of year to do stuff like this. I'll hang up and listen.

With all due respect to all opinions on this subject, if we could possibly get Jalen Suggs to pair with Ant and Jaden going forward, take whatever you want to make it happen.

Finch put a damper on that little stat at his exit interview. One of the reporters asked him about that net rating stat for Rudy and Mike, and he responded with Mike gets to start the first 6 minutes of each half alongside Rudy when the Wolves usually are in good shape, and then they usually try to pair Mike with Rudy at other times. So, I infer that Mike's good net rating is more a function of playing most of his minutes alongside Rudy, versus some phenomenal net rating contribution that Mike creates.
I like Mike, but he does not have the juice any more to be the starting PG alongside ANT. Mike said he feels good going into next year, but is willing to do whatever is needed for the team, whether it is starting or coming off the bench.
In lieu of a trade for a dynamic PG, or finding a ready-to-start PG in the draft, Donte ought to be the starter while Dilly continues to develop into whatever role he can grow into.

Or is Rudy’s great rating because he gets to play next to Mike60WinTim wrote: ↑Fri May 30, 2025 5:13 pmI'm glad you're listening...FNG wrote: ↑Fri May 30, 2025 4:45 pm Fun thread, and some interesting names on there for sure.
