This actually makes me upset what they did in the 2nd round. They were not in a roster spot limit crunch as projected
You know, that was the first thought that hit me, too. If they were willing to let those two go, they could have had Fleming on the roster!
Of course, then we wouldn’t have Rocco. I am willing to accept that none of those prospects that went early in the 2nd round will amount to much in TC’s eyes. Rocco might be something in a couple years. We will see…

This puts the tax payer MLE in play and puts trading NAW for a player in play
With the Naz and Randle deals and the release of Josh and Luka, we have 11 players under contract (assuming we pick up our option on Dilly) and a total payroll of $193.6M. That puts us about $2.3M below the projected 1st apron of $195.9. Can we use the non-taxpayer MLE if it would put us over the 1st apron? If so, then the non-taxpayer MLE is certainly in play but we’d be limited practically speaking to using only a portion of it given the imperative of staying under the $207.8M second apron. The non-taxpayer MLE will be about $14M. One $14 MLE contract would put our payroll at $207.6M for 12 roster players, leaving us barely under the second apron with two or three slots to fill. Each vet minimum counts $1.8M against the cap. So realistically it looks like we can use only up to around $10M of the non-taxpayer MLE, but I think that could land us a pretty good backup C or veteran PG. A NAW sign-and-trade that brings back a contract of $10M or less next season is another alternative. It will be interesting to see what TC does.
I could be wrong here lip. But I think you are forgetting Beringer and is 4.2 million because we have 12 players on roster currently. I believe we have the tax payer MLE what is 5.6 million (we also need a 14th man on roster

Look, Minott had a shot early in the year and Finch kept his leash short. I know even if we brought him back he probably wouldn't play.
But dammit I'm so bummed that we let him go. I had (have) irrationally high hopes for him. Hopefully one of the basement dweller teams will give him a shot. I'll be rooting for him
Garza I could live without.
Yeah, I've had a bit of an up and down view of Minott since we drafted him. Love what he could be in theory given his athleticism and also some sneaky passing chops. But he was never able to do anything consistently, like shooting or being more of a defensive menace. He seemed awfully close though at times and it might still happen for him.

I heard this brought up a couple times that agents were dictating hard where their players go based on opportunity. TC could have just taken who he wanted but he doesn’t seem to roll like that. I wouldn't be surprised if TC got a cold shoulder from some agents since there won't be PT here. We may not like that but it is a reality.

One problem is he was running out of time. He would have been a restricted FA next offseason. I am pretty sure TC did not want to deal with that. I suspect he tried to move him, but must have not found any takers. And the likelihood of him seeing playing time this upcoming season was pretty low, with Clark, TSJ and even Miller looking for time.

Josh may have also asked to be let out to try somewhere else.
I’m sad to see Josh go. I always loved his incredibly serious approach to the game. His improvement as a ball-handler and passer was significant. He’s very talented and I continue to believe he can become a good NBA player if given the opportunity.

That's true. I think he was pretty frustrated here....
I skimmed through the players making 5 to 6 mil that might be a target in a NAW trade. I could not find anyone that made sense.
I think TC parlayed the Minott and Garza into sufficient 2nd space so he can used the TMLE in free agency and then add a 14th vet minimum player, which may in fact be a re-signing of Garza.
Looking through the list of FA PGs to target with that TMLE, I mainly come up with Tyus Jones. Welcome back Tyus!
