Now that the dust has settled from the draft and our own free agents, I'm bumping this thread with KG4Ever's list of free agents at the time he posted it a couple weeks ago. Not sure how many of these guys are now off the table, but I think quite a few are available. Discuss!

If we S&T NAW to Detroit, I'd love Sasser.

Otherwise, I'd expect Bones on the team

I’d prefer a backup C to a free agent PG. I’d love Capela but we’re not going to get him for the $5.7M taxpayer MLE. I’d love to sign Kornet but I don’t think he’s gettable for that amount either. Here are some centers I like who we might be able to sign for that amount:

Mason Plumlee
Thomas Bryant
Paul Reed
Kai Jones
Charles Bassey
Mo Bamba - ?

Here are some PGs I like who we might be able to sign for that amount:

Tyus Jones
Spencer Dinwiddie
Cameron Payne
Markell Fultz

Lip we have the roster spots to sign players at each spot. Just because they have the MLE doesn't mean they have to use it.

Another spot they could sign someone is a SF sized guy that's actually played in the NBA unlike Minott. Idk if Dallas will keep Kessler Edward's and maybe he has done enough now to make teams want him but a guy like that or hope to sign that next guy like him who has some actual experience but has just been OK. It's lower on priority than the other spots and maybe that were you sign a undrafted FA that you hope makes the roster or sign a guy like that on a 2-way deal.

There are a lot of acceptable names there, Q!

As WW noted, Bones is out there, too. We have not heard anything about QOs for Bones or our 2-way guys. With 3 open roster spots, I wonder if the Wolves might not use the full TMLE, thus leaving room for two vet minimum guys.

PG has got to be the highest priority.

The Jones brothers seem like the cream of the crop, with Tyus coming out on top with his experience and 3-point shooting.

Chris Paul is not coming here, and I don’t see Westbrook as a good fit. I’ve never liked Dinwiddie’s game. Brogdon and Exum are intriguing, but health has been a concern. Same with Simmons, plus he can’t shoot.

Schroder would be fine, but I gotta feeling he will get more money than we can offer. Of course, the same could be said for the Jones brothers.

We may be stuck with Bones, huh?

The list was first created by KG4Ever, so he deserves the credit. I just thought when he first initiated this thread it was premature since we didn't know where we were at with the draft and our own free agents. Now that the picture is clearer, it's a good discussion to have.

Given what appears to be a year of continuity versus some big shift, Tyus does seem like a very safe choice. I think the selling point for him is that he would be the presumed starter to open the season with Dillingham as his primary backup.

I think the one sticking point is Conley. Does he truly deserve to get demoted to a 3rd string PG/insurance policy? His ability to make plays off the bounce (e.g. his floater in the lane, connecting on 'oops to Rudy, etc.) has deteriorated significantly, yet his outside shooting and defense held up well last season.

Regardless of what SHOULD happen with Conley, Finch has proven time and time again that he'll lean on him. Conley may be less affected by not playing much at all or dare I say, fully becoming our new Ingles, than Finch.

FWIW when someone replied to one of Jon K' s tweets asking about Tyus coming here Jon said he thought it was unlikely because Tyus would be looking for a bigger role than what he would have here. I tend to agree. It kinda sucks that he went to the Suns to build up his value but it likely hurt his value. Fortunately there are other solid options.

Dennis Smith Jr is a guy that would be somewhat interesting as a lower end guy that I think can provide depth.

Day'Ron Sharpe probably returns to the Nets on a cheaper deal than the one declined but it looks like he would be an upgrade from Garza.

I agree with Jon. I’d be really surprised if either of the Jones brothers would be willing to come here, even for the full taxpayer MLE unless we traded Conley or Dilly. Otherwise, the position too crowded. I don’t think I’m out on a limb predicting there is zero chance either of the Jones brothers will sign here. In my view, that’s a good thing. We traded up to #8 for Dilly and he’s been here for a year. We need to put him in there. If our front office doesn’t think Conley is up to playing 20-25 minutes per game either starting or off the bench next season, then they should move him. Otherwise, it’s Conley and Dilly. Yes, there’s risk in relying on Dilly as a main piece at PG next season but there’s risk in nearly every consequential move. Trading for Durant would have been risky. Putting Dilly in there to learn on the job next season means taking a half step or step back next season than do be it. Sometimes you have to do that to take the necessary leap forward thereafter. Keep in mind that we have our own 1st round pick next season as compensation for taking a temporary step back.

As you noted in another post, Monster, we don’t have to spend the full taxpayer MLE. My thought is we’d have to if we want a PG like one of the Jones brothers. But I don’t think we have a realistic chance of signing a consequential PG like a Jones brothers or Schroeder. Therefore, I think we’re looking at a third PG at the vet minimum as insurance - someone like Dinwiddie. I still think we need to sign a defensive-oriented backup big behind Rudy.
