I think you can change this into two questions: Who is the 11th man on November 1 and who is the 11th man on January 1?

He may give Miller a look early in the same way he gave Minott a look early last year, as it's basically the last chance saloon for Miller this season when it comes to the Wolves, as I don't see why we'd pick up his team option if he doesn't earn Finch's trust this season.

In the meantime, Beringer will be getting himself settled both personally and professionally early on. My sense is this guy is an extremely intelligent dude and takes coaching really well. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if he overtakes Miller as the 11th man simply because he is elite at one or two things and otherwise doesn't go outside his lane. That's just the kind of 11th man Finch likes - do A & B really well, but don't try to do C, D, and E - leave that to others. Miller will try to do A, B, C, G, X, Y, etc., etc.

The only cautionary tale I can come up with is Herschel Walker. So, I am willing to give Joan a few more Summer League games before developing a final conclusion.

And here is an observation on Finch’s reluctance to play rookies last year. Our rotation was revamped just before training camp with the KAT trade, including the addition of an extra rotation player, taking away an opportunity for our rookies. The rotation took a LONG time to develop some effective chemistry. Again, less opportunity for the rookies. And because the rotation was a work in progress, we played .500 ball for a large part of the season, when we were expected to be competing for a championship. Finch couldn’t risk games by playing rookies.

With NAW gone and Mike’s diminishing minutes, and the year under our rookies’ belts, I expect a lot more opportunity for their playing time. And assuming we are high up in the standings right from the get go, Finch ought to feel a little more freedom to play those guys. And this could benefit Joan as well.

Anyway, I think the circumstances are quite different this year compared to last year for playing the young guys.
Just 2 days...that's a relief. I'll see you guys Monday 8-) .
Don’t count you chickens yet, FNG. That two-day ban was just one poster’s proposal. I’m proposing a lifetime ban. Your Miller over Beringer comment is such an egregious transgression that I don’t see how you can be allowed back on this board. I don’t want you to suffer the same fate as Pete Rose so I would support your eligibility for the T-Wolves Message Board Hall of Fame down the road. But you should never be allowed to post again.

I have it on good authority that not only was FNG counting his chickens he was betting on them too.

Hahahaha...busted again!

(But Monster, having read your post about Miller in the GDT, I think you're warming to the idea that he just might be our next man up if one of our bigs gets hurt. I agree that his defense was better in game 1. I still think he has a low BBIQ, but some things might be sinking in after watching the NBA game for a couple years)

I’ll have to give some credit to our currently banned poster, FNG. I watched the New Orleans game again and thought Miller looked better than on my first viewing. I’ve never doubted his physical gifts but I’ve developed serious doubts about his basketball IQ and effort. On second viewing, I was generally impressed by his effort. He also seemed to be processing the game better. So maybe I jumped the guy in calling for a lifetime ban on FNG. Maybe just a 5-year ban.

Coach Hansen complimented Miller's defense after the game and after spending a decent time doing so said that defense was his concern going into the game so we need to see it continue. He also said he wasn't worried about the shots that didn't go in but he said Miller sometimes doesn't know where to be on offense. He said he drew up a play for Miller and Miller didn't know where to be so he didn't love that. So while their were more positives than when I watched the first time...there are still some concerns about his game. The thing that makes me potentially look at Miller differently than before is he might actually be a forward capable of playing some as a SF which I didn't rule out completely before but he looks more like a guy that could do that now than a year ago and that might take better advantage of the things he has going for him.

I suggest a 1247 day ban with a couple various opt out dates which can be triggered based on how FNG's takes age.

I've always thought Miller was a guy willing to put in effort and a lot of the time does so but sometimes simply didn't know what he was doing. This game he seemed pretty locked in and much less clueless.

At my age, I'm not sure I'm going to make it another 1247 days, so that could be considered a lifetime ban  .

I can just feel that Miller momentum building...all the early naysayers are now thinking "hmmm...maybe".

Actually I've been a strong supporter of Miller since the Wolves acquired him. At this point if a team offered me what was likely a decent 2nd round pick for Miller I would definitely consider taking it and using the roster spot for someone else. Who? Idk but Miller does give off the vibe of a guy that may never really get it like my guy Marvin Bagley who signed with the Wizards for a vet min deal. Lets see what Miller does in game 2.
