I did too. I've been positively surprised by Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers' defense, and negatively surprised by out O line and defense. Not the way I thought it would go either. I agree that 2-2 through the soft part of our schedule signals a potentially lost season. If we were 3-1, I would be advocating for Wentz to start next week. But now if JJ is ready to go, I would start him against Cleveland.
If the oline isn't completely healthy why put McCarthy out there again? Someone playing QB is gonna get hurt. Personally I think Wentz was kinda good. I can't imagine what kind of stats he would have put up if he has like half the pressure he faces or even a third less. Meanwhile the running game wasn't as good when the backups were in.

A bigger problem is Ryan Kelly. This is his 2nd concussion this season. At what point might he not play anymore? The Vikings may have to sign another center unless Jurgens plays decent. I kinda doubt he will but it's also hard to evaluate him when the oline is a twirling carousel. Not having a vet Center might make me more likely to stick with a vet QB for a week or 2 also.

More dissapointing was the defense. It felt like they gave up a lot easy plays today. I didn't not expect then to give up as much as they did.

Isaiah Rogers has already earned his entire 2 year contract.

Now I'll say this...playing a game overseas I don't care how much these guys and the Vikings staff are pros and all that it's still a wildcard type situation. For all the uneven play the Vikings had today they had a legit chance to win the game. They are 2-2 with a bunch of legit players missing games or parts of games. Can they ever get healthy? Can they bounce back against Cleveland?
Fair question, monster. I can't get inside KOC's head, but I think his decision will depend on whether he thinks they have a chance of competing this season. If he does, it's almost a Conley/Rob dynamic...Rob is the PG of the future (we hope) but Finchy knew Conley gave them a better of chance of competing. Wentz was not perfect today with the 2 picks, but he did give us a chance to win...I really don't think JJ would have been as successful in the face of the kind of pressure Pittsburgh was bringing.

But if he's less certain that we have a playoff team, I think he goes back to JJ as soon as he is healthy. He'll struggle like almost all rookie QBs do, but let's give him some experience if we don't think we are going to be competitive this season. That's where I am right now...with our banged up O line and defense and a difficult schedule ahead, I no longer think we are a playoff team. Might as well see what JJ can do.
JJ is a quicker and faster then Wentz, so maybe he can escape a bit better. Wentz wasn't exactly getting rid of the ball on time either. 7 sacks I think. Not all on the O-Line. We're just going to suck ass, might as well let the kid take some lumps.

Wentz is bigger and stronger. I'm not sure that McCarthy is that much faster either or at least a Ole to use that speed. McCarthy at times has looked a bit awkward moving around in the pocket. I'm not sure having a young guy go out there and get hit pretty often is the best route for him to be developed espcilaly if the oline is bad enough they aren't able to run block either. I'm not saying don't play McCarthy but to me it's definitely something where you have to think about it. Wentz was obviously banged up yesterday. Yeah he held the ball too long at times but it's not like McCarthy was getting the ball out fast either.

It was nice to think the Vikings were gonna have a good oline this year but injuries have derailed that. Ryan Kelly was a risk in that regard and so far that's already been an issue. Meanwhile according to PFF Jurgens has been Bradbury like. Not bad for a backup making very little money.

Wentz is a turd walking in mud. He can move maybe better then Brady or Peyton Manning, his short area quickness is super meh.

JJ can move, he the 4th best OVERALL short area quickness at the combine. All the WR's and CB's included. He's elite quick. Now he's hobbled and not 100% because of injuries, but his DNA are to be fast and elite quickness.

I agree JJ doesn't quite have the awareness and pocket movement yet. A little below my hope. However, he is the youngest starting QB in the NFL. You just have to think 2-3 years. Not 2-3 games. Look for progression over time.
