I'm not dwelling on what Minott will or will not become. I do believe TC still liked him and and believed he could continue developing. But the circumstances surrounding Minott's situation is why he wound up in Boston. As I recall, it was Minott's camp that requested his release so he could find opportunity elsewhere. The Wolves had a crowded roster in front of him. Plus he was entering the final year of his rookie scale contract. It made sense that the Wolves needed to move on from him, even if they still thought there was something there.
Good for Josh. I'm glad he went to the Eastern Conference!
I just don't like losing assets for nothing. Not that we kept the 31st pick and we were kind of worried about money at the draft trying to stay under that 2nd apron with negotiations coming up for Naz and Randle. But could we have traded Minott or Garza to Boston for the 32 pick for instance, or traded the 31st pick and Minott for the 28th pick and low salary guaranteed contract, or a future 2nd.
I'm definitely not a fan that we chose to keep Mike at 38 years old and just let NAW go for a 2nd round pick that will be one of the last picks in the 2nd round. I personally would have dumped Mike with a 2nd on a team with cap space and signed NAW. You could have always traded NAW at his coming deadline for a first round pick or some value.
It is pretty crazy that Minott has gone from bench fodder on the Wolves to starting forward for the Boston freakin' Celtics. He appears to be their hustle/utility guy that does a bunch of things at an average to above average rate. Granted, the Celtics are in a transition year with Tatum out and a fair amount of roster turnover, but still, good for Josh.
My issue with Minott were two specific things: 1) not being able to guard quicker wings or guards that he switched onto without getting his hips turned and then having to foul or give up a hoop, and 2) a shaky 3-point shot on a Wolves team that really needs it's wings to be able to make that shot consistently. Otherwise, I liked him!
I haven't watched enough of Boston to know how he's doing on #1, but it does look like his 3-pointer is still pretty iffy. Will be interesting to track his progress as the season goes on.

His stats are generally worse than anytime with the Wolves -- FG% and FG3%. He's just getting to play more minutes. The one stat that is exploding for him is rebounding, which goes into the hustle category. We'll see how their season unfolds. They are 3-4 and host the Jazz tonight.

I've watched a few Celtics games, and he has shown a lot of hustle. He's also playing much better defense than we saw here, although there are still some WTF moments with him. Boston isn't going to win as many games this season with Tatum out, but I actually think they're more fun to watch. They really move the ball around !

But you have to put the stats he's putting up now in the context of his role, which is as mostly a starter playing a lot more minutes per game than with the Wolves. That's what is impressive. But it's early in the season in a weak conference and he may get increasingly scouted. While I have no doubt he'll continue to post decent "do shit" stats, I really want to keep an eye on his defensive advanced stats (D-EPM) and his 3-point shooting to see if those start becoming more and more glaring as a weakness....or may be not and he's truly leveled up.
