Sano Thread

Post by bleedspeed »

Looks like he got in shape this offseason.

"A fitter Miguel Sano showing Twins he's ready to take next step in career"

I have my doubts but would love to see him live up to his potential.

It's one picture but he looks much most in shape. I've seen some video of him working on his swing and he looked more in shape too but it's harder to tell with some random cell phone footage etc. The talent is there it seems like the attitude and work ethic was the problem. It would be nice if he turned it around and became the complete player that he has the talent to be. I am cautiously optimistic.

Ah, my favorite time of year. Pre-season...when gullible LST buys into every favorable story that is written about his beloved Twins!

But seriously, I agree with Monster...he looks quite fit in that photo. And dropping 15 pounds while adding muscle has to be a good thing for this young man. Let's not forget that Sano has been considered a top 3 prospect since he was 16 years old, and before last season, he has largely lived up to the hype. He has an extraordinary eye for such a strong young player. If his getting into shape leads to a true breakout season, that could be a huge thing for this club.

LST - Agreed. I am glad to see he seems to have gotten that he can't fall out of bed dominate.

I read Wetmore's article but I haven't looked at the video clips or the articles he linked to. I'll check them out later. Thoughts? I know it's an optimistic take but it seems there is some legit stuff.

I was in Florida a couple weeks back and had a chance to go to the Twins game versus the Red Sox! I'm no baseball guy which should be obvious by the fact that I didn't recognize a single player name from either team. Still I enjoyed the game and the Red Sox new park down in Florida is really nice!

I would not be surprised if Miguel became a plus fielder at third. He has all the tools, and was considered a pretty good prospect at SS in his teens. I'm actually a little more concerned about his bat. Where is the incredible plate discipline he showed as a rookie...constantly working the count favorably? After a poor sophomore year, he's hitting under .200 this spring. The team really needs him to figure out what he's doing wrong at the plate and return to his rookie form.

Smalley and Souhan spent some time talking about Sano's defense and his weight. Both guys said the guy is really big and moves really well like a big cat. They said when Plouffe was in town a while ago he said leave Sano alone he is a big guy but a very good athlete or something like that. Honestly I think he has looked terrific a lot of the time defensively over there. If Sano really is a plus defensive defensive 3b that's a pretty significant development.
