KOC is a clown 🤡

Post by Wolvesfan21 »

Guess who leads the NFL in avg yards per attempted pass?

JJ McCarthy is who! Not Mahomes, not Goff or Allen or name your former MVP.

The youngest and least experienced QB in the NFL is averaging 12 yards per attempt. Long developing routes with tougher downfield reads. You need more touch, more anticipation, more accuracy and better reads. Like WTF is he thinking? Feels like going from basic math to trig with no in between.

In the Cleveland game with Wentz and a backup Oline we had many more three step drops and simple throws and it worked like a charm (considering all the backups). Can't run the ball super well? OK get a 4 yard pass off and let the WR,TE or RB make a play to get a few maybe many more. KOC in the postgame looked disgusted at how his game plan that week worked.

He hates not doing his thing.

Why are we throwing the kid so far into the deep end? KOC can't help himself.

I never understood why the hot routes and check downs almost don't exist either (relative to other offenses)? Not just with JJ, with Bradford and the half dozen other MN QB's. I think he designs many plays so they don't have one, trying the stretch the field to the maximum.

Shouldn't we really just be running closer to 50/50 and I like passing as it's more effective, but having shorter easy throws and playing good defense with a rook at QB? Sure, don't mind some longer plays / routes either, you have to not be predictable. But at this point we're predictable the other way and it's tough on a rook at QB.

Conclusion, KOC is a clown.

The thought had occurred to me watching yesterday's game that we were heavy on the "lower percentage" passes, and we might have been more successful with shorter, "higher percentage" passes. I'll grant you KOC being a clown for the day (although it does seem to be a common theme). We'll see what things look like going forward...

I was thinking I was being harsh, but then when I think about it again. I'm not!!! I double down.

I tend to side with coaches most of the time though but in this case I think you're not putting JJ into the best possible situations. More runs and short passes make the job easier on the QB and when you have a rook (yes he's not technically one but mentally and physically he really is) I just don't get it I suppose.

I still think KOC can learn from the process hopefully and adjust his gameplans and plays to favor his young QB and personnel.

WF, where are you seeing this stat? I see Sam Darnold leading the league in yards per pass thrown of 9.9, and I see JJ 27th at 6.4. Are we talking about the same stat?

It's attempted depth pass avg, not avg of all passes completed or not (the result YPA). He is throwing further downfield then anyone, obviously not really successful either since he's 27th in avg pass (result). So the stat has no bearing on completions it's just asking where the QB is throwing it, versus the other you look at does take into account completion's.

I heard the stat on a podcast, no reason not to believe it though.

I thought KOC's game plan and play calling was very good last game. JJ missed a bunch of open dudes. If he plays decent we win.
