My theory on this game is that with Zion out and so many other guys hurt the young talent for the Pelicans played loose without any established hierarchy to defer to on the floor. They literally had nothing to lose and guys like Fears, etc. had a green light to attack and play fast. What freedom! And they were on fire from 3, including a couple of prayers.
So I'll take the win in light of Denver, Houston, and L.A. all losing last night in games they were "supposed" to win!
Stacking Wins - Wolves at Pelicans GDT
Re: Stacking Wins - Wolves at Pelicans GDT
He did, but also missed a lot of shots and was often targeted defensively (and very successfully at that), especially in the first half. Even when he stays in front of guys he struggles to hold his ground and is on the backfoot. Just one of these guys that tries really hard on defense, but is still vulnerable.

Ant’s going to treat himself to some deep fried food for the next two days celebrating this win. Expect a season low Thursday
Re: Stacking Wins - Wolves at Pelicans GDT
Jim Pete did mention the Wolves were prepping for Zion as of yesterday when he apparently was not on the injury report. I imagine throwing out a gameplan like that is more than just a speedbumpQ-is-here wrote: ↑Tue Dec 02, 2025 10:16 pm My theory on this game is that with Zion out and so many other guys hurt the young talent for the Pelicans played loose without any established hierarchy to defer to on the floor. Just getting to the replay this morning. Currently suffering through the second quarter with the Pels scoring on 10 straight possessions with Rudy out!
Re: Stacking Wins - Wolves at Pelicans GDT
What a disgusting performance by our guys in the second quarter...totally outhustled by the Pels. I'm feeling grateful I didn't watch this one live, because midway through the 3rd quarter I would have felt we were going to lose this one. Fun to watch these young Pels, but not fun to watch our guys.
Re: Stacking Wins - Wolves at Pelicans GDT
I don't want to excuse the Wolves here, BUT as I mentioned earlier in the game thread I think there is something to be said for a bunch of young, talented players that have nothing to lose and no longer have to defer to the hierarchy of the "star" players, which in this case is mostly Zion. In other words, I think him missing the game actually freed up the Pels. And they were hitting some ridiculous, well-defended shots too.FNG wrote: ↑Wed Dec 03, 2025 9:08 am What a disgusting performance by our guys in the second quarter...totally outhustled by the Pels. It was also yet another game where Shannon and Dillingham just couldn't get traction. The contrast in their play versus the rookie Pels was depressing!

I think that's fair, Q, and it's good we got the win. But I can't excuse all the times we didn't get back on defense in that disgraceful second quarter...it was a team (lack of) effort.Q-is-here wrote: ↑Wed Dec 03, 2025 9:12 amI don't want to excuse the Wolves here, BUT as I mentioned earlier in the game thread I think there is something to be said for a bunch of young, talented players that have nothing to lose and no longer have to defer to the hierarchy of the "star" players, which in this case is mostly Zion. Getting this scare from the woeful Pels might be the best thing that could have happened to us. I've been worried about our chances of winning two in a row on their court, but I now think we will play very well Thursday after this wakeup call. 14-8 with two winnable home games coming up will feel quite good.
Re: Stacking Wins - Wolves at Pelicans GDT
I watched the game live and it never felt like the Wolves were in the game in the first half. They were just letting the young Pels do what they wanted. Rudy should have had 6 blocks with all the drives to the cup on him. The defense was good on many plays, and as quote stated, the Pels made some improbable shots. Then the real Wolves showed up in the 2nd half, Elston Turner must have been yelling again! The defensive intensity went up, Ant took over, which they needed, and the Pels ran out of luck.
