Would Detroit actually want to move on from him? Wasn't he a part of the rebuild vision?

They have to decide quickly what they want to do with him since he is a restricted free agent this summer. A few years ago, their old coach refused to start him and was playing Killian Hayes over him which fans hated and got him fired. Last year he played in the first 30 games before getting hurt and they were 14-16 in those games, and they really started winning after he got hurt. He's been back for 9 games this year and they are 6-3 since he came back vs 13-2 in the first 15 games he missed. I'm not sure if Ivey has shown enough one way or the other at this point for that next contract. He may sign a value contract, or he may bet on himself and sign the restricted tender and become an unrestricted free agent the following season. Duren is also a restricted free agent this summer, and Detroit is going to have to give him a big extension.

"The Minnesota Timberwolves have been big-game hunting for a point guard.

There were rumors that they inquired about Memphis’ Ja Morant, have kicked the tires on Kyrie Irving, and now have their sights set on a more realistic target. That’s where the Bulls come in.

According to a source, Coby White has been inquired about, and time is of the essence in the Bulls making a decision. The source said that Minnesota is not looking to wait until February and the trade deadline to get a deal done, looking to fix the primary ball-handling situation that’s been an issue all season long for them."

Joe Cowley wrote about this, and he's quite connected to the Bulls. The Bulls are concerned that a Giddey/White backcourt is defensively challenged, and think Donte would be a defensive upgrade for them. So the rumored deal is Donte, Shannon and a pick for White. Seems like a lot, but I guess I would at least consider it.

I having a difficult time seeing how White is an upgrade over Donte... Yuck!

I haven't watched any Chicago outside of the few times White got hot against us. At least from the brief highlight video I was just watching, it looks like he is a better finisher at the rim than Donte. No idea if I like one over the other. Would much rather move Rob if we are planning on keeping White beyond this season if we made a trade.

You may be right, Tim, but I think the thought process is this:

1) White would give us a legitimate Big 3 on offense...3 20+ point scorers. Plus Jaden.
2) It would put a true PG in the starting lineup who is also a threat to score, and allow Ant to play more off ball.

I'm 50/50 on the deal. This is coming from Cowley, so it is probably more than smoke...he's the guy I first heard about the Butler trade from.

DDV is a certain liability passing and dribbling though, two things White is very good at which could really help unlock our offense more. DDV, slight edge on deep shooting, maybe an edge on defense. I think the two are close. I value White as a better player for us, his defense could even jump playing here.

However I would not give them TJ and a pick, thats ridiculous of course!!! Straight up is probably fair. The kicker is DDV has a fair long term deal, White is a FA.

The issue with White is you need to trade assets for him and then need to pay him. I do not know what the contract will look like next year

If we're trading Donte I believe we can give him up to 30 million next season. If it's Mike as the main matching salary with TSJ or Rob than it's closer to 20 million next season to stay under the 2nd apron.
