A Miguel Sano Problem
I have very reliable source that Miguel has ballooned to 295-300 pounds. In fact he gained 40 pounds since his injury. I don't know how I feel about this, this can be a major problem. Look what happen to Pablo Sandoval career.
This hard for me to say because I defend him and I'm a Sano guy. The fact is if Miguel is not taking his profession seriously it might be time to move him for pitching assets. I think escolobar is more than capable third baseman and I like his bat. Miguel would've been on pace if he didn't get hurt to have the 2nd most strikeouts in mlb the last 2 years only behind Joey Gallo. My point is he's a young star that's about to get paid in a year or 2, but he's the type of asset you can trade for an Ace. Idk the answer but hopefully we have Big Papi and not Kung Fu Panda on our hands.
Also another rumor I'm hearing is the twins are shopping Kepler and Gordon. A trade I keep hearing is Kepler and Gordon for Chris Archer from the Rays who's signed till 2021

Interesting thoughts Jester. Souhan reported before the injury than Sano was like 285 and that was concern. I don't want to give him too much of a pass but if he did gain some weight while injured that makes sense. He can only do so much physical activity.
You would know more than me but there have always been some questions about Sano right? It seems though he has overcomes some things while not putting it all together. This season he played a terrific 3b which likely took a lot of hard work. I think the next step for him is to figure out what he needs to do to his body. I don't think it's just about him being fat either he is a big really strong guy.
It's different sports but 2 guys that had some issues with weight and their body on the Wolves coming into the league at the start of their careers were Bazz and Love. Even as a big fan of Love ai wondered if he would ever be able to be a big time minute player because he was fat and out of shape. Love absolutely did everything to change his body and it was part of what made him a much better player. Bazz may have dropped weight from last year but the guy has been in great shape the last few years. I think he just dropped the weight because you don't really need that extra strength in this new NBA as much as quickness. So will Sano dedicate himself to eat right and find the physical routine to get his body right? Idk Miguel Cabrera apparently didn't really take care of himself like he should either.
The bottom line is the Twins do need to be looking for any opportunities to add an ace pitcher. Maybe they don't pull the trigger on a deal but it makes sense to see what is out there. Jester I'm curious how many Ace pitchers do you think there are in the league? I ask because in the last Touch em all podcast they kinda talked about that and how there really weren't many.

I thought we should look into trading Sano before this report of his dramtatic weight increase. We really didn't miss him during his absence. In fact it didn't bother me at all that he wasn't going to be ready for the postseason. He's going to be a constant injury concern. If he could bring back Archer, pull the plug asap.

Thanks for the list Jester. Are there any guys on your list that will be FAs that you would throw a bunch of money at? The good news is this year a player espcially a top pitcher might actually want to come here compared to other years because:
1. We didn't suck this year
2. We might actually look like a legit team on the rise
3. Obviously spots in the rotation.
I'm not exactly getting my hopes up but it seemed like the Twins were in a REALLY tough spot to add top end starters when they were one of the worst teams in the league. They clearly made some poor signings and trades to get starters but they wouldn't be here without getting Santana. I don't think this FO and ownership are against spending money either. They gave Castro a healthy contract last summer and the trade deadline moves they took on money to get better prospects etc. I don't think they are gonna go out and spend like the Dodgers but I don't think they are gonna be cheating out of they see a guy they want.

4 guys I like in FA is Cueto, Darvish, Arreita and Jason Vargas
Honestly Vargas intrigues me he's a lefty whos pitch very well against the central and probably could be had with Ervin type money, he's not an ace but he's the lefty pitcher weve been missing in our rotation.

Yeah, Jack Morris said a few weeks ago that Sano was pushing 300, and that it was an issue. So much talent, but not enough evidence that he has the will to become as great as he can be. I would certainly entertain offers for him, although my wish is that he gets in shape and stays.

How about his improvement as a defensive 3rd baseman?

This is bad news. I thought he turned it around last offseason.

I thought he was really good at 3rd last season. Keep in mind, he was a very good teenage SS when we signed him out of the DR. But of course that was 100 pounds ago. At 300, he's really only suited to be a DH. My hope is that he drops at least 40 and continues his excellent play at 3rd.
