The Timberwolves are an exciting professional basketball franchise with an awesome opportunity for an ambitious unicorn that can play point guard.
Here is the job description:
- Captain a ball and player-movement half court offense with constant cutting and quick decisions.
- Single-handedly raise the Basketball IQ of the group of players he's playing with while on the floor, especially Anthony Edwards.
- Effectively guard the opposing team's best perimeter player so that Jaden McDaniels can roam more on defense and take on more usage on offense.
- Push the pace in transition to get easy baskets. Strong preference for a high-rebounding PG that can grab-and-go!
- Hit open 3's at a rate of 37% or higher so that teams are punished for doubling or providing heavy gap help on Anthony Edwards.
- Be able to create offense off the dribble out of pick and roll actions and when all else breaks down, especially when Anthony Edwards is off the floor or needs a break.
- Has the ability to throw precise, feathery passes to a tall Center with hands of stone that can be caught, secured, and converted.
- Shows a high level of intensity and effort, i.e. a high motor player.
- Limit turnovers since the fanbase is tired of Ant and Julius's sometimes sloppy handles, with an assist to TO ratio of at least 3:1.
- Do all of the above for a competitive salary no higher than the price of Julius Randle.

That player would pretty much cover it. Does he exist?

What's Derrick Williams up to? He doesn't fit the bill but maybe he knows a guy.

Calling John Stockton first.

Kyrie Irving?
Re: Help Wanted: In Search of a Unicorn
I wouldn’t call Kyrie Irving a high motor player. Sometimes he is but sometimes he isn’t. And I’m not sure he checks the ball movement box. And I don’t see him as an elite one-on-one defender. But he does check the other boxes and, if motivated, he would make the Wolves a much better team.
Re: Help Wanted: In Search of a Unicorn
The PG from the past who best fits Q’s job description is John Stockton. I don’t think Magic would check the 3-point shooting box in the description.
. Are there any current PGs who check most of the boxes? I mentioned Cade Cunningham, but obviously he’s not realistic trade option for the Wolves or any other team.
Let’s consider the San Antonio Spurs. Their starting PG is De’Aaron Fox who would check many of Q’s boxes. They have the young emerging PG star, Stephon Castle, behind him. And they have another emerging star SG, Dylan Harper, who can also play the lead guard role. So I’d say, the Wolves might have a chance at getting Fox or Castle in the off season. The Spurs could really use an all-star caliber PF. Hmm.
I think Tre Jones also checks a lot of Q’s boxes but he’s not at the same level overall as Fox.
