Players you thought would be great!

Post by Leado01 »

I love looking at rosters from prior years. Most of those years I think "How did we win 25 games?," but the there's the seasons where I think "how did we only win 25 games?"

List a player you thought would be a star/superstar for our Wolves:

Isiah JR J.R. Rider: Isiah was crazy athletic and gifted on offense, and when he wanted to, he could defend. He was the best player on the floor on nights where his THC levels were correct and he loved dominating his collegiate piers. The downside of JR was that his THC levels were frequently off (appearing to be too much) and he would disappear in games for long stretches. I loved his game and thought for sure we had a superstar on our squad. I was very wrong.

Rider is a good choice. I have a couple obscure ones.

My first is Gerald Glass. In those days, you could watch Timberwolves' practices from the running track above the court at the downtown Northwest club, and I would sometimes take a lunch break and watch the practices. Glass was often the best player on the court...nobody could stop him. And then when he scored 30 or something off the bench against the Lakers (I think), I thought he was going to be a star. Nope.

Then I got excited when we signed Felipe Lopez as a free agent. A college teammate of mine from NYC watched many of his games in high school, and he would call me saying he had never seen a better basketball player...a true NY legend. He struggled in his first two years in the pros and was released. I thought he just had to find the right situation, and he would return to his high school glory days with the change in scenery. Nope again.

That is a jersey I'd still pay irrational amounts of money to purchase.

Someone needs to borrow notes from Jerry Seinfeld, and write the directions on your hand like George Costanza did. Just don't let the wife see the notes after the fact.

Felton Spencer. I really liked him until we found out he had no game.
