Where are you going on your golf trip? You're a Philly guy, right? I was lucky enough to play Merion Cricket Club the summer they were hosting the US Open. They had grown the rough and narrowed the fairways to make it tougher for the pros, and it was WAY too tough for me...suffice it to say my score was higher than the number of points the Wolves scored last night!
Hilton Head. I have no idea which courses we're playing since it's all being planned by the guy hosting us at his place down there.

Merion East is one of the old-school tracks in the U.S. Open rotation. Another good one not too far from Merion is Aronimink, which is hosting the PGA Championship next week. I'd say they are Philly's version of Interlachen - old, very private courses with a prominent legacy. The difference is that Interlachen has faded in national prominence over the years.

It's cool you got to play Merion. It's truly one of the top courses in the world (or at least the East course is). I found over the years that the novelty of playing a top rated tough course wears off after about your third triple bogey! Give me a really well-maintained golf course with reasonable greens, shorter rough, and not too much water!
Totally agree with your last paragraph! 7 of us had a friend who had terminal brain cancer, and one of the guys being on the PGA board arranged for us to play Merion and Pine Valley the next day...both way too hard for me! Special connection for me though since my mom grew up walking distance from Merion (she graduated from the same high school as Kobe...different years!)...her best friend's dad was the groundskeeper at Merion so she got to play it several times as a teenager. Have fun at Hilton Head and play better than our Wolves did last night!
Wow. Pine Valley actually IS the top rated course in the world and is even more exclusive than Merion! That's pretty crazy you got to play those two courses. I sometimes wonder if outings like that should be played as teams of two or four in a scramble format so at least you have a chance of posting a decent score by always taking the best shot. I'm going to suggest that to the guys I'm playing with in Hilton Head, as my guess is these will be pretty difficult layouts and we're ultimately there to have fun, not suffer through a miserable round of individual stroke play!

The Spurs came out and did what you would expect for a tem that's pretty good. This was an ugly game for both teams early on but the Spurs got on track and the Wolves did not.

Did the Wolves have some issues and all that? Sure. It also felt like it simply wasn't their night. They missed some make able shots and just couldn't get going. I get they got blown out but the reality is they are 1-1 with guys hurt. It does matter how they got there but in some ways it doesn't. If they get blown away game 3 then I'll be much more worried. This may be a bit of chess match.

TSJ wasn't as good in this game but I still liked what I saw from him overall.

Excellent, monster...so much fun! Maybe you've seem the 1971 movie with Michael Caine and Lawrence Olivier which is really good, but it works much better as a play.

I haven't seen that film but I may need to check it out and I'll keep my eye out for when that play is performed locally.

Other than going to sporting events the live events I really enjoy going to is musicals but plays are also pretty cool too. I need to go to more of those performances. One of my coworkers does quite a bit of community theater and goes to lots of community performances so I get some inside scoops on what is playing. They were in the Lincoln Community Playhouse performance of Anastasia last year and it was so good I went back again that weekend.

I do enjoy concerts more now too I went to one on Friday.

Monster, let's not let Q know or he may permanently confiscate our man cards, but I'm a musicals guy too. But I highly recommend Sleuth and also another one coming to Guthrie this summer, Come From Away. I'm guessing you have a lot of cultural options available to you living in a big college town.

What the F is going on in this thread? I don't like it.

I don't like it one bit. Not one bit.

Basketball should be the only thing in your life. All of you.

Hahaha, I blame Tim...he started it by confessing he was going to Harry Potter last night! But you could make a case that Tim and my absence from the game last night was a factor in the disaster. I have canceled all plans for Friday and will try to make amends by watching the game in real time that night.

It's the Wolves that should lose their man cards after last night!

As for Friday, I'm skipping the game and going to watch Heidi instead. I tore up my man card and threw it in the damn trash (which I then proceeded to take out to the curb per my wife's request).

Q seems like the kind of guy who still watches The Flying Nun reruns.

Speaking of which...

Cool definitely enjoys All in the Family reruns.
FNG is a big Everybody Loves Raymond guy.
Wolvesfan can't get enough of Real Housewives of Carver County or whatever latest version is out there.
Lipoli will watch Seinfeld on repeat if given the chance.
That new guy BeenLurkin watches A LOT of MSNOW.
Timmy still can't get over how shapely and fetching Aunt Bee looks in some of her outfits while cooking pies for half of Mayberry.
