I've seen a few articles suggest Randle for Herro straight up including Miami specific articles that are throwing out a few different trades. They make basically the same salary next year, Herro has one more year on his deal. Sounds like Miami has been shopping Herro for awhile, not wanting to pay his next salary increase. He's 26 so the same age as Ayo and Naz. Looks like he has had a few injury shortened seasons. Looks like a decent shooter, don't know much about him regarding his playmaking and defense.
Big liability on defense.

Here's my main question for the off-season.

What kind of guard is Ant going to be?

Everything moves off that.

Is he going to continue being the "lead guard" and you go into the summer with a better plan to do that, and he actually accepts the idea that he has to make plays.

Or is he going to be a two way star and lock in on defense? And I mean lock in, I mean playing like he wants to make an all defensive team.

As a coaching staff, if you really think he can't actually do this, then fucking trade him. I don't want him here if he can't actually accept that level of demand to win.

From there you can figure out what roles you're adding and who can already fill them on the current roster. I don't want to endure two low effort starters on defense again, either Ant is your high level defensive guard which gives you more latitude to find a starting PG or Ant is your primary play maker and once again you have more latitude as to who you can bring in. But you won't be able to find a high level play making guard who can also space the floor and play great defense. You should be able to find two of those attributes but not all three.

Bottom line though, I don't want to have two guys coming and going on defense

I think Ant growing as a playmaker is the most likely outcome and sets the team up the best. Then Jalen Suggs for example looks a lot more desirable in that case.

Did anyone listen to Donte's exit interview? It was pretty dang impressive. I had kind of assumed he would just be an expiring contract, perhaps used as part of a larger deal (ala Melton with Golden State). But I can see a world where he is signed to an extension this offseason, or re-signed next offseason. His advanced stats certainly supported his effectiveness as a key cog in the starting lineup.

I don't see Ayo signing for anything more than the MLE. And ala NAZ's first extension, maybe TC can sign Ayo before he even hits free agency (3 years for 52 mil).

If you listen to Finch's exit interview, along with a few of the players, the "ANT as lead guard" experiment was not as successful as hoped (we knew that already!). It really sounds like that experiment might be over.

Randle was brought in to replace KAT (KAT's salary being the driving force). It also checked TC's biggest need that offseason which was adding a playmaker to compliment ANT. But after two years, it seems obvious that Randle's flaws outweigh his positives. Personally, I believe Randle's lack of rim protection was one of the glaring weaknesses holding back our defensive efficiency. So, TC will be looking to move Randle, but needs to find additional rim protection AND playmaking to compliment ANT. The rim protection could be a combination of starting NAZ, Joan and Rocco getting minutes, and/or adding a shot-blocking veteran. The playmaking will also be a combination of current players making improvements (Ayo and Shannon), and possibly a vet coming back in any Randle trade.

I think Mike will be back, largely in the Ingles role. Bones really wants to be back as well.

Probably the biggest wild card this offseason is TC and his desire to go big-game hunting. Giannis? Kyrie? Jrue Holiday? Derrick White? LaMelo Ball? I'm sure TC will have a lot of lines in the water looking for that big catch.

Herro is sort of a younger version of Zach Lavine. The biggest issue with him is whether or not he can stay healthy. On offense he is pretty efficient and might actually be a pretty good pairing with Edwards. He has decent size to defend but I have gotten the sense he has actually gotten worse there but that may also be partly due to his various injuries. I think I'd rather trade Randle for Herro than Morant. I'd want to get paid to take Morant off the Grizzlies hands.

To be honest I think the Grizzlies will eventually end up attaching assets to trade him, but for the love of God don't do it TC.
