Detroit is the obvious team for a Randle trade. They desperately need a secondary shot-creator and a PF.

There are two trades I thought of with them.

Randle
pick 28

For

Duncan Robinson
Paul Reed
Marcus Sasser
Pick 21

Or

Randle
Pick 28

For

Isaiah Stewart
Ron Holland
Marcus Sasser
Pick 21
2027 1st top 5 protected

Both trades save the Wolves $, 4-5million. I'd wager Detroit would be more inclined to do the second one, as they wouldn't want to lose Robinson's shooting, though I'd love it here. Reed is a good backup PF/C on the cheap.

I'd like to see Stewart as a backup to Rudy and a bully against the likes of Jokic, Wemby, Chet. Holland is still a work in progress, and can't really shoot, but he is young at 20 and lengthy. Sasser slots in as a young backup pg to Ayo.

Neither trade is the big name hunting many are talking about, but they both net quality depth and improved draft position. With the second trade, the Wolves would be left to hunt for shooting and a backup PF in FA and the draft. In both trades Naz slots in as the starting PF, with Jaden taking some minutes there while TSJ gets routine SF playing time.

For Detroit, Cade/Ausar/Robinson/Randle/Duren is a pretty formidable starting lineup in the East.

What do you guys think? Am I over-valuing Randle or are these feasible?

Creative trade Future, but I'm not seeing it from Detroit's perspective. Look at that lineup you just posted. You have three (mostly) non-shooters in Ausur, Randle, and Duren along the front line. They would have TERRIBLE spacing.

Plus they already have a headache to deal with in Duren's terrible playoff performance, I'm pretty sure they don't want to add yet another moody big next to him.

They already suck at shooting and finished as the 1st seed. I think Randle adds more offense than they've been working with. And a much needed secondary playmaker.
They'd still be opening up money with Harris and Huerter expiring to go chase shooters.

But all of those shooters that they theoretically go get would have to come off the bench. No way are you bringing Ausur, Duren, or Randle off the bench so you still have a big problem with the starting frontline in terms of floor spacing. And I just don't like the Duren/Randle pairing, as it feels like a couple of playoff underachievers.

Naz Reid would actually look REALLY good on that roster.

Okay, disregarding the fit aspect in Detroit. How do you see that value for Randle? A few roleplayers/flyers and draft capital. Is it too much/too little?

I think it's other team's bad fits/malcontents/highly flawed players unfortunately. Julius may be considered fairly drama-free relative to some of the other guys out there that may be available (e.g. Morant). I thought Phenom came up with a pretty good list in the other thread, although it's kind of depressing.

The other option is he's part of a bigger trade where we attach something else of value to him. Remember that the Knicks attached DDV and a first rounder (ended up being Beringer) to Randle when he was traded to Minnesota for KAT.

But I just don't see him yielding anything that magically fills a near-term hole for us that helps put us over the top against OKC or the Spurs. The main "value" of trading him is simply getting other guys more touches and hoping our roster fits better together without him. That's no guarantee either even though Julius has become the scapegoat in a lot of ways.

It isn't scapegoating. He finished with 3 points in a close-out game and was continuously quitting on plays. He has to be removed from this team.

I don't disagree with you, I wanted him traded last offseason! I'm just saying he wasn't the only reason we lost even though he's getting the majority of the heat right now. The Spurs were better than us up and down nearly the entire roster, similar to OKC the year prior. Of all people Naz (who has struggled in prior playoffs) came out looking the best, which also makes Randle look bad since they play the same position.

I don't see how Randle can return... he'd get more boos at home games than road games. It's also interesting to see what happened to the guy as the season went along.

He JUST missed making the ASG... which happened a week after all the trade buzz involving him. Coincidentally, his stats got progressively worse from that point on...

Pre All Star Game:
22.3 ppg / 7 reb / 5.4 apg / 49 / 33 / 82 shooting splits.

Post All Star Game:
18.1 ppg / 6.1 reb / 4.2 apg / 45 / 28 / 75 shooting

Playoffs:
16 ppg / 7.5 reb / 2.8 apg / 39 / 24 / 74 shooting
