RIP Rick Adelman

Post by Monster »

He was a heck of a coach and I was pretty excited when he came to the Wolves. It's almost weird that he never coached again after that.

After he left the Kings in 2006 they have had 13 head coaches and the only one with a winning record? Some guy named Mike Brown.

Tough day for me as I know the family. Great coach but a better man. Will be missed.

Good coach. One of the Wolves best... and he would have been remembered more fondly if not for an unfortunate 2014 for the Adelman family and the Wolves. Cool would know what was going on a lot more... but Adelman was gone from the Wolves a lot that season to be with his ailing wife.

The Wolves extended their playoff drought to 10 seasons that year despite having a top 10 offense + defense for all but the last week of the season. Usually a mark of a deep playoff team, the Wolves lost close game after close game on the way to a 40 - 42 record.

I think they would have won a lot more games with Adelman there every night...

He really enabled Kevin Love to have the best year of his career that season at the hub of the corner offense. 26 pts, 12 rebs, 4+ assts per game on really good shooting splits. Of course nowadays that would be a mediocre night for Nikola Jokic, LOL.

i felt like once the situation with his wife happened, he was just there to get his 1000th win and split and that's what he did.

Oddly enough his reticence to play young guys kinda did him in, kinda like Finch.

I remember that was one of the complaints about him but were there young players he didn't play that ended up being good? Meanwhile Rubio played 34mpg for him as a rookie who had recently turned 21. It's not like Derrick Williams didn't play his first couple years with the Wolves (there were definitely people that wanted him to play more) under Adelman and well it turns out he wasn't actually much of an NBA player.
