Ja Morant
Interested to hear this board's thoughts on trading for him. I imagine most will not be too thrilled by the idea. I would prefer Giannis Kyrie and Kawhi, but if those all fail I would be fine taking a chance on Morant. His value is at an all-time low, a Julius for Ja swap would work.
Re: Ja Morant
I'd be more ok with taking a shot at him if He cost the same as Randle. The problem is he costs almost 9 million more next year and that's gonna effect the Wolves ability to make other moves. I kinda doubt the Grizzlies are gonna give up something worthwhile to take him on. I think there will be some other team that takes a shot at him.
Aside from that I have various concerns about Morant which have been discussed in various other threads the past few weeks. I get his value is at an all time low but there are reasons for that. All the players the Wolves can make a move for this offseason have various issues or warts but Morant has basically all of them. Injury, questions about his game on the floor, off the floor stuff, has his game declined? Contract is an issue like I mentioned although at least it's only 2 years which is how long we would have Randle for if he opts into his last year.

Re: Ja Morant
It all depends what we would send out.
Ja Morants value can't be any/much higher than Julius Randle's, based on the baggage that comes with his game, salary and personal life.
I would potentially be interested in a straight swap, but we would be adding 8.8 million of salary to the books which is the last thing we need trying to avoid aprons. I would not want to include DDV to purely match salaries unless we are getting something back i.e a pick or pick swap to move up from 28 to 16 in this years draft.

Re: Ja Morant
I'm in the not thrilled camp, no matter how cheap he comes. He's actually not even that great of a player anymore having peaked very early in his career.
As I've mentioned a bunch on here, I'd much prefer we look at their plenthora of guards OTHER than Morant. Cam Spencer, Scottie Pippen Jr., or Ty Jerome would be quality additions to our roster and a lot cheaper than Ja.

Apparently, according to Doogie, the word from a Wolves guy is the Wolves are not very interested, both at the deadline and now. I don't think Ja is coming here...

Re: Ja Morant
let Doogie tell it they still love Fox though
As for this thread, if Utah really does take Boozer, that does open the door to unload Randle for Ja. In a vacuum, I make this deal even though I don't think too highly of Morant.
He has 4 major flaws
1. off the court stuff (his dad among other things)
2. he's hurt a ton
3. he doesn't shoot well
4. He doesn't defend well.
Even if I wanna be gracious and give him a total 180 on two of those things, those other two things are killers. Would I be happy to add him? No. Is that what Randle's value is? That's selling high on Randle. Am I adding extra to this beyond DDV's expiring? No. Should we expect extra from Memphis? Yes.
Do I ultimately think this happens? No, but mainly because Boozer will be in Memphis and they won't want Randle messing with him.
I'm starting to have this sinking feeling that there's a better chance than I think that Randle actually comes back and Tim tries to explain it away and it makes for an ugly locker room.
Re: Ja Morant
I still consider Julius for Ja the backstop deal for both teams. The question might become, would you rather keep Julius?
Re: Ja Morant
Ayo- 24 games with the Wolves
14-4-4
52% from the field
41% on 3's
26 years old
Ja- 20 games TOTAL last year
19-3-8
41% from the field
23% on 3's
26 years old
I'd rather just have Ayo. Better defender too
