I think it would be useful to look through the non Wolves lens at who would even be interested in Josh Green. It would seem to me that it would be teams that want to drop future salary since Josh is expiring.
Chicago: Patrick Williams 3yr 54mil left.
This trade should be able to net the Wolves some draft capital. Could also include Donte and Jalen Smith if that's your flavor. Jalen Smith is probably the exact type of 4 this team needs so the cost to get him is taking on Williams contract and moving on from Donte, which the team supposedly isn't doing.
Indiana: Obi Toppin 2 yr 31mil left
I don't have a good feel about how the Pacers view Toppin but I know they are cheap and have some key free agents next summer to keep with Nesmith, Sheppard and possibly Jarace Walker. Maybe they can dump Toppin later.
Miami: Nikola Jovic 4yr 62mil left
Miami would probably be all over this but would require draft capital going to the Wolves. Not sure what they have left.
Toronto: Jakob Poeltl: 4yr 103mil left
Uhh moving on
Houston: Dorian Finney-Smith 3yr 40mil left
Should be able to extract some draft capital for this one as well. DFS can take on some POA assignments from Jaden. It's hard to know if DFS completely fell off last year or if Udoka just didn't like him for some reason.
Lakers: Jared Vanderbilt 2yr 25mil left. Luka has played with Josh Green before. Maybe that helps get a deal done.
If say there is a pretty good chance the Wolves could make these happen between now and the trade deadline. The question is if they should. I'm not sure Green has more value than this.
Who wants Josh Green?
Re: Who wants Josh Green?
Update, the Pacers are projected to enter the tax next season after signing Kelly Oubre.
I know how they can shed 15 million

Great post, Phenom. I’ve been trying to figure this out - from a non-Wolves perspective as you framed it - and you’ve laid it out perfectly. I think those scenarios are all realistic and maybe sensible for both the Wolves and the other team. Now I’ll come back on each option looking through a Wolves lens:Phenom wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2026 2:01 pm I think it would be useful to look through the non Wolves lens at who would even be interested in Josh Green. Patrick Williams (Chicago) - I still like Williams’ potential even though he’s looking like a bust - possibly one of those guys who doesn’t really love the game. But maybe he’s salvageable and worth the risk depending on the draft capital we get in return. This is the one deal in your list that could put some meaningful draft capital back in our depleted cupboards. If we’re willing to part with Donte, I love the idea of expanding the deal to include Jalen Smith but that might put a dent in the draft capital we get back.
Obi Toppin (Indiana) — I’m not a fan of this deal. Obi is an offense-only PF and not much of a rebounder. I’d like to think we can get a player who plays both sides of the ball or at least rebounds. Added to that is a major physical concern. He has the dreaded foot injury, which is particularly problematic for a big. He had a screw inserted into his foot last year I believe. That’s too much of a red flag for me for an offense only PF. On the other hand, beggars can’t be choosers. Obi is a high quality offensive talent and he’d have a role here. So I can’t dismiss him.
Nikola Jovic (Miami) — That’s not an attractive contract for an offense-only PF whose offensive game regressed significantly last season. Of course, that’s why it should be pretty easy to get him for Green. But as you noted, we’d have to get draft capital in return and I don’t think they have any tradable firsts. So this doesn’t seem like a deal worth making.
Dorian Finney-Smith (Houston) — Very realistic but I’m not crazy about him as an option. He’s undersized for a PF and he seems to be declining. Maybe OK depending on the draft capital we get back.
Jared Vanderbilt — Not a bad idea. But maybe just sign Jeremy Sochan at the vet minimum. Sochan brings pretty much the same attributes but he’s younger with remaining upside.
Re: Who wants Josh Green?
Nice post. I do think it's worth mentioning that the only reason we're talking about rerouting him is b/c of the cap and need at PF. If the Wolves needed another 3 & D wing and not a PF, I don't think we'd even be considering rerouting him. Whether he's a bit overpaid or not he still has value as a player. Question is can TC find a team who needs that while getting that PF in return. Still really hoping he's able to pull something off in one of these multi team trades.
Re: Who wants Josh Green?
IDK...uninspired.
I might just roll with the best we can do without taking on more long-term money. We've actually re-worked our core where the majority of our players are now 26 or younger when camp opens up: LaMelo, Ant, Jaden, Shannon, Joan, Clark, Evans, Bones, Rocco, and Freeman.

Re: Who wants Josh Green?
I've been working though this myself. Imo
We would be better off waiving and stretching Green (not saying we should) than taking on some of those long term salaries like Pat Williams and Jovic.
