Twins #3 pick

Post by Jester1534 »

Twins get there replacement catcher for Jeffers.

Vahn Lackey is basically everything you can ask for catching prospect. Mauer type patience with more power from what i heard from what connections i have left on twins scouting. I have on pretty good authority if the Twins were at #1 that he most likely would've been the pick for them as well.

Pretty excited the team has played as good as they've. Its too bad Culpepper has been banged up as he be up woth the club by now.

Walker Jenkins looks like he's going to be the truth. Hopefully they can flip Larnach and Jeffers for some bullpen help at the deadline.

There no reason not to trade Jeffers at deadline there not gonna pay him and they need to get something value for him Espically how good Cartina has played behind him

Yeah, I liked the pick too, jester. I hadn't heard that they had Lackey #1, but it seemed like they went into the draft knowing they would like whoever fell to 3. Quite a contrast to all the years it seemed like the Wolves always had pick X plus 1 in an X-player draft!

I also am excited about this ball club. Obviously the bullpen remains an issue, although improving, and I sure wasn't expecting us to be leading the American League in runs at the break! Add in 2 high quality starting pitchers in Taj and Ryan and I guess it's not surprising we would be in the wild card spot if the season ended today.

It seemed like everything I read Lackey was an excellent pick. And then they went with another catcher too.

The issue is that it seems like everything I have read this team wants to actually win and be buyers and not piss off the fan base further. Can they trade Jeffers while still buying? They don't have to trade him now. They could do a qualifying offer and keep him another year or get a draft pick if he leaves. They could sign him and trade him later although that is risky and well the Twins have done that before actually with higher end outside FAs but they haven't gotten value for those guys they had to dump them. How do they feel about Alex Jackson who did end up hitting after a slow start at the plate. Remember how people were making fun of some of the Twins waiver pickups this off-season? Ryan Kreidler...Alex Jackson. I know Kreidler's bat has tailed off this month but his defense hasn't. What kind of offer will they have to turn down to keep Jeffers? Imo it's gonna have to be a big offer from a team to get him.

On the other hand can they trade any other catchers in their org now for value? They already traded one (Sprock) for a reliever. They have some possibly reinforcements coming in Sands and an even longer shot in Garrett Action getting healthy. Unless some other guys really take off they likely need to add at least one legitimately useful reliever before the trade deadline. More than that would be good but it might require a lot to acquire that type of pitcher.

I think the problem with giving Jeffers the QO is that he will sign it.

It really just depends these next 15-16 games of there hunt they probably keep him. If not he can probably get you a fringe top 100 prospect.

Its funny how they've lucked their way into Morris and Gomez. If those idiots don't trade Varland we would have a three headed monster again.

Ive seen there name attached to Guasman a bit from toronto. That intrigue me they could get him and move Connor Prielipp to bullpen. Then need to watch Connor innings anyways so this might be a good way to do it.

Then just add some reliever to fill out so 5-6 deep thats good enough to make the playoffs. Then when they go to 4 starters Zebby can move to bullpen too.
