Power Forward Free Agent Options - Poll

The list of unrestricted PF free agents still available has dwindled. I’ve identified most but not all of them for consideration to fill our 14th roster slot. Among all of them, I think Kuminga is the one who will require more than the vet minimum, but for sake of this poll, assume they can all be signed at that amount. Please vote for two.

I voted Love and Kuminga. If I could sign either one at the vet minimum, I’d sign Love because we know what we’d be getting from him and it would fit well - rebounding, interior strength, floor spacing and veteran savvy. Kuminga is certainly a more intriguing high-upside choice, but I’ve already discussed his red flags that give me pause. If Love did not want to sign here, then I’d somewhat reluctantly sign Kuminga instead if he were willing to come here on a vet minimum.

Acquiring Kuminga on a sign-and-trade might be a bridge too far for me in spite of how enticing it would be to get a young PF with Kuminga’s talent.

I read something a couple days ago I believe was from a legit source that Memphis wants to keep Prosper so if they dump someone before the season starts it might not be him.

If you are bored look up ulrich chomche who might be an interesting upside player on a 2-way player if the Raptors don't bring him back now that he is recovered from his knee injury.

There are likely gonna be some other guys with similar experience and success available at some point but I like Watford. Ideally he would shoot the 3 better (and or higher volume) or be a better defender but he seems like a guy that can do some different things and brings a guy that legit played PG for the tanking Nets and has solid PF size.

Any chance Watford could be had for a two way contract? We only have the one roster spot we could fill at this time with the salary cap, but if we could sign Watford to a two way, you could still play him and bump him up to a regular contract mid season to stay under the 2nd apron if needed.

Kuminga is the most intriguing name here as he is sort of the anti-Lyles/Green "safe" bet kind of forward with a decent floor, but a low ceiling. Kuminga might help you a ton or he might do some stupid things that drive Finch crazy. But at $6M, he'd be the biggest bargain and upside swing on this list.

I love Kuminga’s potential, especially on the offensive end. My problem with Kuminga is his poor defense and inconsistent effort. Is he worth signing at the vet minimum? Probably. You mentioned paying him $6M. My review of our cap situation indicates we can’t pay more than the vet minimum, which for Kuminga would be around $2.84M. We’re about $3.98M under the 2nd apron so I suppose we could use a portion of our $6M taxpayer MLE to pay Kuminga close to $4M next season, but then we’ve have no room to maneuver and I doubt that would be enough to get Kuminga anyway. So I still think getting Kuminga would require a sign-and-trade likely involving Josh Green. The more I think about it, the more I’d say no to that sort of deal.

If Kuminga is willing to sign here for $4M, that would be an encouraging sign that Kuminga is interested in more than the money and NBA lifestyle because signing here for that amount would mean he prioritized winning and playing time. So signing him at that amount would ease some of my concern that he’s more of a Wes Johnson/Darko/Derrick Williams sort of player.

This whole trying to find options to sign even for a depth guy is starting to feel like how the draft goes I get moderately attached to someone I barely knew until recently and then they are off the board. Lol

It would be hilarious if Connelly was trying to figure out how to get Peyton Watson. Lol I'm not saying he is but it would be funny if he was.
