Josh Green officially traded

I would have liked to have kept Josh Green but it had to be done to get Kuminga. Tim's paying his own players a little more type of negotiation did screw us a bit, since had you signed Ayo to 17 million this year we could have just kept Josh at least until Donte came back. Oh well, while I don't know much about Cody I will be rooting him on since he is on our team.

Cody Williams has been one of the worst NBA players in his career. He had a good Anthony Randolph stretch where he averaged 16/4/4.5 in his last 20 games. But followed it up with a really bad 3rd year summer league.

With all that said I have no issue with taking a swing on a player especially when Finch has had a couple of explained of talented players who were fighting for their nba career buy into a role and system in Naw and Bones.

I expect nothing but solid trade and they still have an open roster spot. If Olynk would sign you to that in my opinion

I also knew nothing about Cody until this morning, but now I'm intrigued. First, his pedigree is good, being the brother of JDub. Second, he was a consensus 5-star recruit out of high school and the 10th pick in the draft just 2 years ago. Finally, Monster was correct about him finishing strong last season. Look at his game log...he averaged over 15 PPG the final 2 months of the season after he was moved into the starting lineup (of course, because of Utah's tanking strategy!). As Lip said, he's not a 3-point shooter. But he might have the potential to become one, as he made 17 of his 41 treys in college (41.5%). And he's another young player who loves to run the court...fits in well with what Finchy wants to do.

The Wolves are deep enough that Cody doesn't have to crack the rotation. But he has the potential to fill perhaps the only need the Wolves had...a backup to Jaden at the 3. I think TC has done it again: fixed his financial situation while also bringing in a player with some upside. Of course wildwolf might be correct, and Cody might just be trash...after all, he was chosen in the draft by Dumb Danny Ainge, who might be the least successful POBO in the Association the past 5 years. But I still like the move. I never saw Green as any more than a throw in in the Ball trade, and to replace him with a much cheaper, 21-year-old former lottery pick and 5-star recruit sounds like grand theft larceny of Utah...again!

Cody has shown zero potential as a shooter so far in the NBA. I mean, Clark is leaps and bounds ahead of him and he's shaky at best! He also struggled to shoot in the G-League and made less than 70% of his FTAs down there. So while I realize we are in peak optimism season, there is zero indication that Cody is going to be enough of a threat from the outside to play on a team that already will have at least three weak/non-shooters in the rotation in Rudy, Kuminga, and Joan.

Ha, true...Clark has been a much better shooter than Cody, and that's a low bar! He may be yet another Ainge mistake, but Danny wasn't the only GM that saw him as a lottery pick just two seasons ago. He's been a disaster shooting the trey at Utah, but his admittedly small sample size 17 for 41 at Colorado shows some potential, and he was considered a good shooter as a 5-star recruit out of high school. As Monster says, let's see what he can do in Iowa. TC may have pulled a rabbit out of his hat again.

Hahaha, I love the "Anthony Randolph stretch" reference...nice work! But I'll push back on your assessment of his summer league being really bad. He averaged 17.5/4.5 in his 2 games on 57.8% shooting...better 3-point shooting too, averaging 1.5 makes in 3 attempts. Too many turnovers, but overall a decent performance.

I think we can all agree that you don't expect to get much back when you are "forced" to do a salary dump. But all things considered, getting a 21 year old lottery pick back exceeded my expectations...and certainly better than having to carry $5 million of dead money for a couple years. I give TC a B+ for this deal.

I'm seeing some people online say Konchar might be the better player in the deal. I wonder if we waived him, if someone might claim him like Chicago, and if they did would that eliminate the need to stretch him?

Maybe, teams couldn't technically offer anything at that time yet, but we all know teams break the rules all the time. The rumor was Detroit, but they were also linked to Austin Reaves which made the Lakers overpay, Detroit may have also been linked to other guards on the market. My guess is his agent went out and got an estimate of what teams could offer, but not an actual offer.

I went off what Jazz Reddit and twitter was saying about CW summer league. They were saying he did well game 1 but was disappointing after that for a year 3 guy.

But I agree with you! Very solid trade. The LaMello trade pretty much ended up being. LaMello, Kuminga, Evans, Williams, unsigned vet min and 2 million of dead cap space for Naz, Randle, right to Spagnolo, 1 first, a couple of swaps that shouldn’t convey and multiple 2nds


I like it a lot. The wolves got so young and athletic this offseason.

Too big of a risk for what that wolves want to do. If he is not claimed, then it’s just dead cap space this year and no longer have access to the vet min.

Well that is better than waiving and stretching Josh. I am assuming that the team won't pick up Cody's 7.6 million, 4th year option.

I have seen conflicting information about where the Wolves cap stands.

Dane has them 6.275 million under the 2nd apron with JK

Bobby Marks and Yossi have them 400k under with JK

Jonny K thinks the team might add a vet 15th player.

I'm assuming Bobby and Yossi have it right.
