McKay isn't Babe Ruth but will probably turn out to be a good player. The twins were able to sign 4 potential key players instead of 2 by picking Lewis at one. Baseball is a little different your allowed so much to give for a signing bonus to all there picks. The Twins were able to save a million on Lewis and they were able to sign a young stud HS pitcher who some people have a top 5 arm in this draft and give him 2mil instead of 1 and stop him from going to college at LSU and re-enter the draft a year later. So I would say no you shouldn't be mad at this draft and tbh a lot of this is crapshoot baseball is hardest sport to predict because there are so many different variables that can effect a player
Smalley and Souhan basically said in their last podcast that it's quite an accomplishment for a majority of guys just to reach the majors even if it's for just a couple games. It takes so much time to go through all the levels and there are so many players you have to be better then to get to this level. Some guys give up because it is so demanding with the daily grind and takes so much time for most guys to reach their goal of playing in the majors. The draft is 40 rounds and so every year there are more guys drafted and kept in an organization than are roster spots. Imagine if the NBA had 15 rounds in the draft or the NFL had 53 rounds. It's crazy the sheer number of prospects that MLB teams pick and some of those guys picked in later rounds turn out to be good players.

Isn't it crazy. No other sport has this kind of development system. NBA/NHL are closer, but just the number of tiers involved etc.

I know what you mean. I was from the same area as this kid and used to lift at the same gym as his older brother and would spot each other from time to time. Baseball is a long road and when you think about it no wonder so many young NBA players don't make it.

I know a guy that was on track to the Majors as a relief pitcher and turned down a lot of money to leave the game entirely.
Great inside info, jester, and thanks for posting the review of our draft, monster. I feel really good about our draft after reading both! I still question Lewis' relatively low batting average in high school (gotta hope he was in a conference with some really good pitching), but other than that the draft looks really solid.

I'm fairly certain it was a money issue, cs. The Twins really liked Enlow, and knew it was going to cost a lot of thier bonus pool to sign him. They couldnt afford to pay Carlson what he wanted and still enough in the pool for Enlow.

Just like LST it was most likely cause of money, Lewis signed for 6.7 mil which the max was 7.7 mil for him. They used that extra mill and other saving to pay Enlow an extra 1.3 mil over slot value not to go to school. Enlow is consider to have one of the best if not the best curveballs in the entire draft.
