Jester, I agree that Mollie was overmatched again...loved him as a player, but I really hope they replace him with a veteran who can manage a game better. The reason he had three catchers on the club was so he didn't have to use his poor hitting catchers in clutch spots...well, second and third in two different innings is a clutch spot, and Mollie let Castro strike out both times. And why couldn't he see what the ESPN woman announcer saw right away...that Santana had absolutely no bite on his slider. Honestly, he should have given up 10 runs in those first two innings, but the Yankees kept missing hanging sliders...I was cringing on about half the pitches. I love Santana, but he's a disaster on the nights where he doesn't feel his slider. And finally...down a run with first and second and nobody out against a tough reliever...don't you bunt Escobar?

The Twins were a better team than the Yankees the last half of the season (despite the obvious advantage in the bullpen), but they didn't look like it last night.

To be fair... the Twins simply don't have the horses. I can totally see why he'd stick with veteran guile over piece-parting it together with a mediocre bullpen for 8 innings.

Meanwhile, the Yankees pen is OUTSTANDING. But if you go by ESPN... Judge was the real hero for extending a lead that the Yankees bullpen was already in command of holding.

Idk about espn but it seems other media around are giving Buxton some love.

Ik playoff games are not supposed to count but Buxton sealed his Gold Glove with that catch

I wasn't sure about Castro in those situations either and my viewpoint of watching the condensed game is not as significant as someone watching the entire game.* However I was curious so here is something to consider:

Castro came into the playoffs red hot at the plate. He hit over .300 in sept/October and August he had an OBP of .368. So you can make an arguement this wasn't a hapless offensive catcher that was up there. It was a guy that in the opportunities given in the last couple months was doing pretty well.

*Someone sent me a message last night that tipped me off to the outcome and it's been a bad week and I just didn't have it in me to watch the whole game this morning espcially knowing the outcome.

I agree with going with the vets...to a point. It was clear from the first batter that Santana had nothing on his slider...and Santana with no slider in Yankee Stadium is a prescription for disaster. Allen should have gone to the mound after the 2nd batter and asked Santana what was up. Santana would gave said he wasn't feeling his slider yet, but that he think he could get there. When a vet says that, I trust him and leave him in. But after the Gregorius HR, I'm going to the pen...just like the winning manager did. Businitz to finish the first, and then Berrios to start the second. Second guessing, I know...but I admired Girardi for pulling the pitcher with the 3rd best ERA this year, and wanted Mollie to do the same at the time.

The stupid first pre-season game between Minnesota and LA, as covered by ESPN: 10% T-Wolves, 30% Lakers, and 60% Lonzo Ball. Oh, and the T-Wolves won. Maddening.....

That may explain how much i pay attention to ESPN's coverage. I basically only use them to see what scores are...sometimes and if I happen to see an article I may read it.
