Re: 2016 Draft Thread - Vikings Addition
per fox sports:
The Minnesota Vikings traded their third-round pick to the Miami Dolphins for the 186th pick in the sixth round and third- and fourth-round picks in 2017.
The Dolphins will send their compensatory selection to the Vikings in the fourth round next year if they are awarded such a pick. The Vikings will receive Miami's next lowest pick in the fourth round if the Dolphins are not awareded one.

What articles do you want? I can add them in here tonight.
Draft grades/some analysis. Nothing in particular, whatever they put out afterwards. Thanks Kahns.

I hope Jason is ok since his guy Tom Hackett went undrafted and signed with the jets. I was reading there is legit concerns about his rugby punting being able to translate at the next level.
And that brings us to the next phase UFA. I want the Vikings to sign Kenny Smith-Doughfield* a great athlete out of Middle East Missouri State.
*i just made up a name most of the guys in college football I have no clue who they are going into the draft much less the UFA process. The reality is the Vikings may have a tough time getting some UFA because there is not many open roster spots.
The guy was two-time Ray Guy winner. I don't think the NFL ball is that different.
Locke was 32nd in average yards per punt (a full 4 yards below league mean) and 30th in net (a full 2 yards below league mean). To me, that is what the draft is all about. What are you bad at? Who can fix it immediately, or at worst a year down the road? The only thing I can think of is MIN thinks the ball is going to carry at US Bank (like it did at the hump) which can help close that gap. But if they passed on a punter and then end up waiving 4 or 5 of these picks like last year, shame on them.
Sidenote: I'm rewatching the "30 for 30" doc about the Magic. The only doc that ever made me laugh harder was "Some Kind of Monster".
Nobody has to be convinced it would make sense to try and improve on Locke. Lol You may find reading about the differences in NFL and college punting formations interesting.
the Vikings are bringing in a punter to their mini camp at least named Ben LeCompte from NDSU and it looks like he is a reasonably legit punting prospect himself. Chicago is giving him a look at well.

4 yards and 2 yards, that's not much to complain about. I too was a big fan of replacing Locke, but then i read into it more. Look at Locke's stats before Zimmer (he was around league average in every category), and now with Zimmer. He's bottom of the league in the "sexy punting stats" (like there is such a thing), but we as a team are tied for 4th best average return yards against, and 2nd in overall yards returned against. He's punting within a plan, not outside of it. That's a good thing.

OK, here's my concern about that guy: He punts in a dome. I might just come out in the wash when you consider that Hackett benefited from Altitude and games in California and Arizona, but it should be a concern.

I hope you're right. But here's the thing: All a punter is is how far he kicks it, unless he has absolute vodoo inside the 5 yard line. Running backs are part their line. QB's are part their line and their receivers. Punters just catch and kick.
In terms of return yards against, some of that is a function of the other 10 guys, unless you can show/tell me something he is specifically doing to help that stat.

There's your answer on that compensatory pick. The guy I got the info from was clearly wrong, he said the Vikes get the highest compensatory pick which if I'm correct could be as high as end of 2nd round. Compensatory picks are always given at the end of a round right? If so then it looks like we don't want Miami to get a 4th round comp pick next year.
I liked it better the way I heard it previously, though this is still a great trade by value.

Yeah, I saw. Fine work by you and TX. And good luck to the Dolphins GM at his next job.
