2016 Draft Thread - Vikings Addition

Adam Zimmer (Mike's kid and Vike's LB coach) is my neighbor and an early morning guy like me, so we sometimes chat pre-dawn as we wander outside with our dogs. This morning I asked him if he was upset that they didn't take any linebackers in the draft, and he kindly reminded me I had forgotten about Brothers (whoops). Next I asked him if he was unhappy we passed on Jack in the first round, and he said not at all. He thought there was too much risk with Jack, and he agreed that a WR was the best pick. Seemed sincere about it. He probably thinks I'm a dumb shit since I forgot about Brothers...oh well.

Don't be so hard on yourself. He probably understands that you have a job/family/responsibilities that keep you from having memorized everything about the Vikes.

I am glad to hear that he understands that first downs and/or points can help a defense as well. I also think they are exploring moving Kendricks to the outside, using Brothers as the 2-down MLB and Barr/Kendricks as the 3-down OLB's. I think the yards/rush on a Floyd/Joseph/Brothers defense can rise to the Tedd Cottrell days.

Not Viking related but it's fun that any NFL team has fans getting really pumped about a FB drafted to their team. Andy Janovich was very popular here at Nebraska but it's great that Denver Bronco's fans are catching Jano Fever down there after Elway's tweet about drafting him. Janovich is one of those local walk on to NFL guys that I really enjoy about Nebraska Football's tradition.

I think the reasons are two fold. It is going to run-heavy offense for the next 1.5 years (at least), and there are probably a ton of Nebraska fans due to the proximity.

I don't think I've seen that episode (I'm not a big watcher of Southpark) but is it just a coincidence that "Nebraska" the movie was in Black and White also? Is there some sort of longer standing joke about Nebraska being black and white that I don't know about? I really enjoyed that movie for some reason. I think I connected to it because there were some aspects of it that reminded me of some of my family.

I agree with Jason that the Vikings have been talking about Kendricks as an outside guy before. That LB position has plenty of guys to choose from you have a versatile cheap holdover in Audie Cole and young athletes in Edmond Robinson and Brandon Watts. They signed Emmanual Lamar to a deal that makes you think they plan to hold onto him at least this year. We haven't even talked starters or an additional draft pick in Brothers or some UFA that could flash. I don't know how high end the talent is after the starters but there is some talent to consider. And like Jason said if the DL is strong and healthy those LBs are going to be in good shape. I think Brothers could be a pretty good compliment to the other guys they have.

I'm not sure what type of movies/stories you are into but it was just a neat visual film to see with the black and white for some reason. What seemed to strike me was the sense of realism of the movie. I tend to get caught up in a story so maybe that hit me different than others. Ultimately there is plenty of amusement in the film although there are plenty of downer stretches. Ultimately it's not a downer and I suppose I probably did enjoy it a bit more since I have lived here in Lincoln and could easily recognize most of the spots that were filmed here. Not saying it's a must see but it was one of my favorite films that year although I am not much of a critic/film connoisseur. I generally like most stuff with very few exceptions.

But I am not against realism. I just prefer my realism in the form of "Swordfish" (If you don't remember it, read a review and try to keep from laughing.)

As far as "I love that movie because I once stood in that spot", "Beautiful Girls" (and Purple Rain obviously) for Minnesota and "Monster" for Florida, for me. And I am saying Monster because I live in Orlando, not because of your screename.

I meant you would find amusement of the movie "Nebraska" based on the last post. That was not clear it should have been a different paragraph and named the movie.

One last thing back to the CO/NE thing...some Colorado people can be so smug about their wonderful mountains and such but I ask them about how great the eastern half of the state is and if they know that it wasn't till 1996 that people outnumbered cows. I spent a couple weeks in eastern rural Colorado. Huge cattle yards and same "boring" stuff as a lot of the rest of the plains states so it's fun to throw that stuff at them. Personally I loved it but I grew up that way on the plains. I like to be able to see for a long way and see amazing sunsets. One of the great perks of my current job is driving outside of town in a rural area for a decent chunk of time everyday.
