Week 5: NYC Giants

Post by bleedspeed »

Will the rollercoaster continue?

I think we are an 8-8 type team at this point. We have not figured out how to beat the good teams and seem to dominate bad ones.

Dominating the bad teams is an improvement over last year. Our 2 losses were on the road against division foes that are probably at least kinda good. Can the team get better especially the passing game? We will see.

8-8 is the Kirk Cousins special.

They're on 8-8 team on which most of its high end talent is looking at the downsides of their careers. Given they're saddled with Cousins for 1.75 more seasons and those great players will be well on their way down the wrong side of the hill it's time to capitalize on whatever trade value they still have. Blow it up!

I've had fun contemplating the idea of trading everyone you can for picks and cap space but...the reality is that this team has one of the most explosive RBs in the game a terrific WR duo TEs that have produced or have promise as well as a defense loaded with good players. This team is .500 The season is far from over AT THIS POINT. So many teams around this time of the season or later are said to be done and they went on playoff runs. Who is the juggernaut team in the NFC? I don't see one yet. Don't get me wrong I don't have high hopes for this team but giving up now would be too much. This isn't like the NBA where you have to either land a max FA or draft a top guy. The NFL you can get impact players a variety of ways. Yes more draft capital is better than not but it's not the end all be all...same with FA.

I think you listen to serious deals otherwise you wait for the offseason. I actually think the Raiders did a fairly good job of that with Mack and Cooper.

It's also worth remembering the opportunity of getting comp picks if guys That are FAs leave and get paid.

I wouldn't blow it up. We still have a couple more years of our core players in their primes. Just focus in the trenches on improvement. The defense outside of Waynes is locked up and paid for and Hughes was specifically drafted to cover the gap. The offense has all the skill guys needed around a mediocre overpaid QB. If you get a shot draft a QB to replace Kirk after next year and then you have your second window around a still highly talented roster with a rookie QB. Then you can blow it up if it just didn't work.

Actually the defense isn't all locked up outside of Waynes. Alexander , Harris and Kearse are also all UFA. The Vikings are up against the cap next year. Hughes can't replace all those guys. Some high priced defensive player may need to go.

Now I tend to agree with you though you keep going and try and add players and draft that young QB. It's sort of a backwards way compared to what a lot of teams do get their young QB then build around them with guys that makes $$$$...they sort of are already spending the money although if they didn't have to pay a QB maybe they could get a couple of the right FA offensive lineman to plug in and make a difference. Of the guys that are cap casualties Reiff is the most likely IMO to get cut...but then who is playing LT?
