Vikings Offseason 2020

It is that time again. It will be interesting to see what we do.

I hope we go into this as a lame-duck season for HC, QB, and GM. If I am ownership I am asking
Speilman if we are better off rebuilding or reloading. I personally think this team is ready to rebuild by trading guys over 28 years old if you can.

I'd still want to build around guys like Smith, Kendricks, Barr, etc. They don't have many more years of high level play left. I do think the D Line needs an overhaul though and the CB position looks super thin even after all the resources we've put into the position. It's gonna be a rough one to try to rebuild. I think the only real move to make for a long-term deal would be to deal Diggs, but what do you get back for him and what do you do to get cheaper WR help? This team just has a bunch of holes this offseason to fill. Honestly we might just be best off drafting a QB high, eating a bad year where we loss a bunch of guys and then use the Cousins savings next year to restock around the rookie QB for a run.

At 6-foot-7, 360 pounds, Becton is a mountain of a man but he moves like someone who weighs more like 260, which pairs nicely with his footwork, balance and strength. Vikings RT Brian O'Neill is coming off a strong sophomore season but Reilly Reiff, 31, is entering the final year of his deal. Becton wouldn't be forced onto the field as a rookie while also providing Minnesota with some much-needed depth.

We need line help, but this team is about to lose several guys as cap casualties so I just don't know how we take a 1st round pick with the expectation they sit for a year. This draft is the most important we've had in a while from a standpoint of needing impact players out of the gate. We don't have the luxury any more of taking a Hughes to bring along slowly with established guys out there. We have holes that need to be filled with cheap rookie players. If we cut Reiff then by all means get a tackle in the first round, but if we don't we need to use that pick on a guy who's gonna help this team compete next year.

The guy I would consider trading that nobody is talking about is Cook. RB's have short careers and he has not proven to stay healthy. He needs to get paid soon and if we can get a 1st rounder for him I would do it. I would even listen to a second and third or future picks.

Wayne's came a lot Slowly Hughes was getting on the field plenty before he got hurt the coaching staff was gushing over him. O'Neill was supposed to be a project...he ended up playing his rookie year and was actually pretty good and followed it up with another really solid season. If they draft a guy with a first round pick that ends up being a top 10 LT but we have to wait a year? Fine...Reiff hasn't had some problems staying healthy so the guy would probably play some anyway. The reality is that Teiff is probably still worth 9 million or more on the open market and 11 million is what they would save by cutting him. That's a lot of money but replacing a LT that's decent is...well we know how that can go. I wonder how much we could resign Rashod Hill for. Reiff is better but Hill is not terrible either. Drafting a tackle that may not play right away would still give them a depth guy at that position which they may need if Hill is gone and Udoh isn't quite ready.

You could argue that when healthy he is the best offensive player in the entire team. It's something worth considering all the reasons you laid out. Its worth saying the Vikings likely have a better grasp on what cook is or will be looking for in FA and whether or not they can afford it. The Vikings have tended to take care of their good players and to be honest it's worked out pretty good for them. They could probably get a deal done that keeps the big money down the road a bit till they have some more room/figure out their QB situation (or it figures itself out).

I think Cook is likely the best player on offense. I wonder if we breakdown spending by position how we stack up in pay. I would think we are lagging in OL. Probably top 10 in QB and WR/TE.
