2020 PROFOOTBALL NETWORK MOCK DRAFT

Post by bleedspeed »

I got a little board today at work and did a draft on Profootballnetwork.com. I really like their draft site for mocks and it has some good reading too. Here is the draft I completed.
Image

I did 2 trades. I traded out of the first round I didn't have the players I wanted at that point still on the board. I was able to add picks in round 2, 3, and 4. I also added a pair of 4th round picks for 2021 draft.
Image

After the draft, I put together a projected depth chart. The players drafted are highlighted. The defense would get much much younger and likely take some serious lumps. It would be a good foundation building year and to make it worse we won't have much of a chance for offseason development.

I will try to give overviews of the players selected when time permits.

Did you leave Gedeon off the roster on purpose?

I don't think Hurts can make it in the NFL. He was below avg as a passer in college overall and an excellent runner. If he was much better as a passer or a little better at both I could see it. He's not shifty enough as a runner to be a Lamar Jackson type, so he's not going to be elite running. More like Culpepper who could do it and do it fairly well, but not elite. Then his passing is suspect that I don't see it coming around, even with many years as a backup. I would pass on him unless it was very late like 6th - 7th round.

Monster - Gedeon did make it. I should move him to backup MLB. I did have us moving on from Jaleel Johnson. I could do more with the depth chart but thought it would be a good picture of how a draft would impact the roster.

WolvesFan - I am not 100% sure what to think with Hurts. I guess he showed well passing at the combine and he did complete 70% of his passes the last 2 years. I think he is a better passer than Jackson, but not as good as a runner. I wouldn't draft a QB in this draft unless I was trading down. Jordan Love is interesting, but I am not sure he makes it to 22.

Oh Duh sorry I totally missed it. Still I think if he is healthy he is probably higher on the depth chart than you have him. The guy has been a starter even over Wilson the last couple years. If the Vikings move on from Jaleel I think some team would be wise to give up a late round pick to be sure they get him. Decent DT are always cut but I think Jaleel is more than just a space eater. Even if he is just another Shamar type that's a pretty solid guy to have especially depending on your scheme. It will be interesting to see how things play out. Like WR there is going to be a ton of competition at the DT spot. I wonder if Holmes will move outside at all depending on what all they do in the draft etc. it seemed like he did fine his rookie year when he was out there.

As for Hurts I think he is intriguing but I also wonder if he is a fit here in terms of a system. I know you should take a talent not a guy based on system but still I'm not sure I believe in him enough I just take him no matter what. I do think if you are picking in the 2nd round I think Based on my very small research he has the talent I would be interested in taking him...maybe even in this system although I don't know a ton about him. It would be interesting to know what the discussion was when Kubiak and Elway were discussing Younger QBs during their time in Denver.

Hurts did make some strides in his passing. I am a Bama fan so I watched nearly every game of his. But he also was throwing to some projected elite WR's too. Guys are running wide open there and at Oklahoma.

It's a thing that somewhat has me questionable about Tua. Tua projects to me as a Russell Wilson, if he can stay healthy. Hurts seems to be a Culpepper on the high side.

I am wondering the same. It is like the DL at Auburn. Are the guys that good or do they benefit from one guy being elite or others jut being really good.

Jaleel just never produced and PA has dropped hints that he is lazy. That is why I kept him off the team.

The Vikings love Gedeon, but Jordy Brooks is basically a mashup of Eric Wilson and him. He has Wilson's speed with Gedeon's size. Zimmer has played LBs early and he would be a guy we could play and see if we can release Barr in a year or 2.

I think Hurts would be solid. I don't know if he's a potential superstar, but getting to that OU offense really opened up his game. 70% completion with 11.3 average. He's got some size to him also and the ability to run so he can hold up in an NFL pocket. I think that's a little high to draft him though. Not sure he ever breaks through as a starter.

Pick 33 JAYLON JOHNSON - CB

Overview:
A sudden athlete with a high ceiling as a lockdown CB. Sticky on the hip pocket and doesn't lack confidence or aggressiveness. Average size/length hurts his ability to contest every catch point but he is scheme flexible & best in press-man on the boundary. He was 2nd Team All-American this year.

Vikings Outlook:
Would be forced into starting right away. He would be learning under fire and there are rumors the Raiders will take him at 19.
