2020 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT OF THE DAY

Post by bleedspeed »

March 22nd - Joe Reed - WR - Virginia

PROS:
Do it all WR that is built a little like a running back. Can lineup anywhere from outside, slot, running back, or kick returner.

CONS:
A receiver who tends to take what the defense gives him but doesn't really have the skillset to threaten and defeat coverage on a regular basis. Improving his route running will go a long way.

KEY STATS:
Reed was named first-team All-ACC as an all-purpose player and return specialist his senior campaign. He led Virginia in receptions (77-679-8.8, seven TDs) while scoring twice on kickoff returns (24-796-33.2), tied for second in the FBS nationally.

FIT FOR VIKINGS:
We have needs at KR and WR. He can return kicks right away as he develops as WR.

March 23rd - L'Jarius Sneed - CB - Louisana Tech

PROS:
Good size and speed. Good ball skills when in zoner coverage. Solid tackler.

CONS:
Needs to be less grabby downfield. Will struggle in man to man. Not a lot of burst and is not a physical tackler.

KEY STATS:
Started 12 of 13 games as a junior corner (59 tackles, 1.5 sacks, three picks -- one returned for a touchdown -- and eight pass breakups). Sneed moved from corner to safety for the 2019 season, receiving second-team All-Conference USA recognition after intercepting three passes (scoring a third career touchdown) and breaking up six others while making 73 stops, 3.5 for loss.

FIT FOR VIKINGS:
Could fit in as nickel or safety. A good developmental player with required physical traits.

I know of him and I might just make him a highlight player. :-) I wonder how much it hurts his stock not to workout the combine. It will be a crazy year for the draft.

I figured It would throw this together now that I have a little more time on my hands to expose some of the less-known guys to the Viking fans here.

If you get really bored you should look at some of the young guys the Vikings already have signed on their roster that weren't exactly on the draft radar. I've enjoyed watching some old tape etc of Alexander Hollins. Here is a recent tweet that shows him working out.

Oops! I missed a few days!

March 29th - Kylie Murphy - G - Rhode Island

PROS:
Good size and mobile. Murphy has starting experience at tackle, guard and center. Murphy's pass protection is a strength, with the anchor and slide quickness to match up with a variety of rush styles.

CONS:
His size and strength were good for his level of competition but may be an early challenge in the NFL. He's an average drive blocker, but might be quick enough to get to challenging angles as a move blocker.

KEY STATS:
He started three of 10 games played at left guard as a true freshman. Full-time starter as a sophomore, suiting up for six games at left guard and five others at right tackle. Colonial Athletic Association coaches took note of his junior year play, voting him first-team all-conference after he started 11 games (10 at left tackle, one at center). Murphy was once again a team captain, earning that title his senior year and garnering second-team Associated Press All-American and first-team All-CAA honors for his play in 12 starts at left tackle.

FIT FOR VIKINGS:
Perfect Zone lineman for Vikings. Could fit in as future LG. If anchor is good enough inside he could start early. The former team captain in football and basketball at Attleboro High School in Massachusetts is a good sign of leadership.

I doubt it, but he might be able to play for the Wolves based on him being captain of his High School basketball team. I doubt the Vikings pick him though. He didn't start his career as a TE like Bradbury and ONeal.

March 30th - Davion Taylor - LB - Colorado

PROS:
Good size, speed, quickness, and range. When it clicks for him can make some great plays.

CONS:
Raw as sushi. He might not ever get it. Lots of tapes where he is a second late to react.

KEY STATS:
72 tackles as a senior. He is new to the game. He would be a good PS or special teams player to develop.

FIT FOR VIKINGS:
He would be a late-round development player. Tools are there and if you can coach up his ability to process things you might have a baller.

April 1st - Khaleke Hudon - LB - Michigan

PROS:
Fast quickness, and strong. Productive player who could play three downs and contribute on special teams.

CONS:
Small. He played LB/S combo in college

KEY STATS:
Led Michigan with 102 tackles as a senior. He is new to the game. The Vikings have liked speed over size at LB. His sophomore years was his best. (82 tackles, 17.5 for loss, eight sacks, two interceptions, nine pass breakups). Hudson tied an NCAA record that year with eight tackles for loss against Minnesota.

FIT FOR VIKINGS:
He would be a development player and special teams contributor.
