Daniel House said he sees him as a guy that could develop after a year. I'd be cool with that having a guy supposedly that talented as a backup to Reiff. That would mean we have Hill as a backup Tackle too. Cleveland is super athletic so I kinda like it regardless.
Zimmer on kfan said they tried to trade up multiple times but nobody would trade. As much as I wanted to move up and grab Lamb if a team refuses to trade what else can you do.
Also I hear we would have taken Gladney at 25 anyway so cant complain about moving down.
As far as Jefferson it was hard to get over not trafing up for Lamb but am happy he fell past philly. I think a good comparison for Jefferson is Reggie Wayne. I can see it and think thats a solid pick.
I really want to see us deal up to get winfield today and trade Harris hopefully for a 3rd. I like harris but we cant afford to pay him 13 or 14 million. Damn that barr contract looks worse and worse every day. Then trade rieff and a 3rd for williams. Also go get tyler johnson as well. Then load up on some ol and cbs. Hopefully can nab amik.
Heard we offered a 4th for williams and they want a 2nd so meeting point would be a 3rd.
Sounded like they really liked Jefferson so that move up attempt might have actually been to go ahead of Philly to get him.
There's no way the Redskins were getting Reiff and a 3rd for Williams. Heading into the draft it was sounding like they might not even be able to get better than a 3rd or 4th by itself. Glad the Vikes nabbed a tackle though and now don't have to overpay a Williams.

I don't love his potential as a center fielder which is what we use Harris for to let Harry play all over the field.
Honey badger isn't very big and he has had a heck of a career. I WANTED Winfield Jr but I figured they weren't going to take a Safety high enough to get him after the first round picks happened. Winfield picked of Brady in 2001 which is surprising partly because Winfield actually had an INT. Lol
Edit: I get what you are saying about Winfield though.

I'm fine with passing on Williams. If all we had to give up was a 4th and cap space sure it's a good gamble but I'm not convinced that he is actually gonna be good this year. Reiff will cost less money and if healthy will be at least decent if they keep him. If they cut him And play the rookie that's waaaaay cheaper.

Agreed. Williams wants huge money too. I was seeing that Reiff could be a designated June 1 cut and it would save them 11m. At this point I'm hoping Reiff can slide inside to guard.

13 million (9 million in savings if they cut him) to play guard?!??? Hell no.
Apparently Cleveland is weak in his legs which is not promising in a division with Khalil Mack. Another year and another lineman that needs to add strength to reach their potential. Elflein has got his ass kicked for 2 years so I'm not confident about another project who needs to get stronger. I would expect Reiff to start at LT and have Cleveland be a backup and be on more of an O'Neil development path which O'Neil is good, but he wasn't ready right away to help.

O'Neill played 11 games as a Rookie at RT. We would be thrilled if Cleveland was that successful but they are sorta similar profiles. Cleveland is more athletic than Elf so that's a differentiator there. It will be interesting to see what else they do to help the oline in this draft. They have plenty of picks to address it. Not many interior lineman picked so far which lines up with what I had read on this board that it was a good Tackle draft but not interior guys. Maybe that was more at the top of the draft.
So the Vikings trade down again and now head into day 3 with 13 picks. Spielman an said how they fill out the roster might look a little different this season since there is likely no rookie minicamp and other rookie's able to tryout and work into the roster. They will still go after undrafted rookie FAs but it wouldn't shock me if they actually used a bunch of these picks to draft guys they like instead of trying to get them as undrafted guys. I'd guess they make some moves to go up and get a guy or 2 though also. I feel like they have checked off the boxes of adding some talent to spots of needs. Will the players turn out? Idk we will see but I certainly can't complain.
Needs to me are in no particular order:
-Interior olineman I don't really see much room on the roster for another developmental tackle unless it's as a guy they hope to have on the PS.
-Safety They have their 2 starters under contract and basically nobody else. Harris is on a 1 year deal. I'd guess they add someone in the draft or be REALLY REALLY hot landing spot for undrafted FA safeties.
-DE we really don't have anyone for sure slated to start there. This is a spot I really have a ton of faith in the Vikings to find someone.
Spots they could add to depth etc:
WR LB DT CB (never have enough and they have spots open still)
So there is plenty of work to be done and it should be fun watching tomorrow whenever I get around to it.
