Ya, at this point I pretty much expect a Keenum franchise tag. There's no other way he takes a short term deal after this year and he's way too big a risk to sign to a long-term deal with essentially one year of good production on a stacked team. Also if Teddy doesn't play a game this year I really don't see someone else offering him much this offseason. Why sign potential damaged goods over just finding someone you like in the draft and taking them?

What team is gonna hand Case a deal with more than basically 2 years at most guaranteed? I still won't be surprised to see both guys back and I hadn't considered the franchise tag. The Vikings have a ton of cap space. They can sign both guys and have something left over probably. I would think Case (and Teddy) would rather come back with a team that would have a very good chance to win than some hapless team desperate for a QB who will probably get bench week 6 by some draft pick. Both guys would know it's just an injury away from one of them playing again.

Redskins if they lose Cousins

Ton of teams out there that would give him big two year deals. Remember Glennon he got three-year, $45 million and 18.5 guaranteed and compare to Case productivity he wasn't even close. Osweiler got a ton of money from the Texans for essentially being mediocre. My point is there always some stupid team willing to overpay. If you Franchise him we have everyone pretty much locked up. They can afford to over pay for a year.
I agree with you Jester. Case is going to have to make a business decision this offseason. If we can keep TB and franchise him we do it. (That being if TB looks that good in practice)

We agree that the most he would get is a 2 year deal. How many of those teams are gonna draft a QB? The franchise tag makes a lot of sense. Regardless a short term deal could work out good for both Keenum and the Vikings. Obviously Keenum would like a long term deal but we agree that's unlikely to materialize. If it does...good for him. If Keenum plays well next year (even if he is just decent) he will get plenty of money even as a top backup bridge starter going forward. Look at the money Josh McCown has gotten and honestly he is better than I think he gets credit for.
Interesting read. Only 500k guaranteed. He might have been better off being told.
QUOTE In a conference call with the New York area media, Bridgewater, who spent 10 weeks as the Vikings' backup quarterback last year, avoided a question about whether he would be a full-go for offseason activities.
"That's not something I'm comfortable talking about right now," he said, per ESPN. "I'm pretty sure that will be a discussion I have with the training staff and we'll come up with a plan moving forward."
Did he have a setback? Is that why he was not the backup QB in playoffs?

One thing that's been bizarre this whole time since his injury is how little Teddy has talked to the media. I mean i can understand why but it's been weird. How healthy is he? Idk maybe he isn't ready. I think Bradford is he was healthy made sense as the backup. Teddy hadn't thrown a meaningful pass in 2 seasons while Bradford had 16 games of well above average play.
If Teddy is mad at the Vikings...I'm a bit confused. They built the guy up praised him at every turn but it doesn't look like any NFL team really believes he is recovered and can play based on the offer he got and took from the Jets. Next season might be the one where he is fully ready to go (and get a real contract with a real chance) if he is actually healthy and can play.
bleedspeed177 wrote:It is odd. I am getting a bad feeling about him at this point.
I've honestly had that feeling for quite a while even the past few weeks of the regular season I wasn't convinced he was gonna come back healthy and be able to play etc. I wanted to be optimistic but I just didn't feel good about it. I've really had nothing significant to change that feeling except for a day or so when we thought he got a good 1 year deal from the jets.
I was more optimistic, but obviously, something happened if he doesn't think he can go at OTA's. He would have been better off staying here as a back for less if he is going to be a backup.
