They had a camera angle from behind him and it should almost from Case's POV that he had the wide open guy so it was some luck and great reaction too.

He was asked about it post game and he responded something to the effect of "Do you think I just threw it blind?", of course he had a big smile on his face saying that. He followed it up stating yes, he saw AJ before throwing the ball.

Either way, Teddy never proved himself to be MORE than a game manager in his first two seasons. So why after not playing for nearly two years is he suddenly going to come in and be an upgrade? Not this season at least.....

If the weapons and line are significant factors in Case's great play that would also apply to Teddy who never had a line and had questionable targets. We really don't know what Teddy could be with this elite supporting cast. All we know is he was middle of the road, but very accurate with a subpar supporting cast. I think Case has earned the spot until he gives it up over multiple games, but there is reason to believe Teddy could be an upgrade with this new supporting cast and this style of offense.

Agreed

Teddy showed o accuracy when throwing 20 plus yards down field so in that regard alone Keemun is the better option.

I think any qb would look good behind these guys. We literally changed almost our entire line and went from the worst line to almost the best one. We have thielen diggs and rudolph, likely the best top three receiving threats on a single team. Both rbs can run but are good in pass protection. I love what keenum is doing and you need to give him another game but zimmer gets to see bridgewater in practice. Also bridgewater is much stronger then he was. At some point we need to see what we got with bridgewater as he doesnt have a contract after this year.

I just think it's too late this season. Unless Case gets hurt or plays terribly over at least two or three games, you don't mess with it. This offseason, let the controversy begin. But there isn't one now.

In 2015 Teddy in 13 games had 38 completions of 20+ Yards and 7 completions of 40+ Yards.

This year in 9 games Keenum has 28 of 20+ and 6 of 40+.

Keenum sure seems to be winging it more by the eye test but maybe the difference isn't quite as stark at first glace. I'm not making a case either way just putting some numbers out there to consider.

That season Teddy did have to cater to AP but he still had AP as a pretty useful threat a lot of games as AP ran for almost 1500 yards on 4.5 yards a carry. That oline wasn't amazing but it was good enough although at times Teddy made it look better than it did as he was able to extend plays and get out of trouble.

What we do know is this team had a pretty poor run for a while when it came to WRs after the Moss Carter days ended. There were some bright spots but most of that times it's beena sad group. Amazingly the Vikings hit on 2 longshot guys and have a terrific WR duo plus some worthwhile other guys at WR and a good TE in Rudolph who has 5 straight weeks of 5 or more catches. That's a pretty huge turn of events. Next year if Cook is back healthy this could be a heck of an offense it really just needs someone at QB to make it go and guess what this team has a really good defense. Ugh I'm getting all excited about this team.

This team is loaded right now. I am happy for Zimmerman and Speilman. I am guessing Teddy is looking awesome in practice and that is making this a tough decision. If we keep winning it won't matter.

Speaking of all this and this should go on another thread, but I am putting it here anyway. I think PJ Fleck will have the Gophers turned around in year 3. Key for him will be getting his QB and raw WR talent. This team was due to take a dive after Kill/Clay recruiting went south.

How many times is Case chucking it 30 yards down the field? 1-2 times a game to Diggs? Seems like a lot of his long completions have been due to work after the catch by Thielen and Diggs. How many times has Thielen been open in the 15-20 yard range only to have to make a diving effort just to make the catch rather than get it in stride and get a lot more chunk yardage? We have great YAC receivers so Teddy's short and intermediate accuracy is so much more important than 1-2 deep balls a game. The deep ball is highly overrated here. 1-2 passes shouldn't outweigh the 10 or so from 10+ yards that go barely completed by great receivers that could do so much more damage if the ball was on target to do something after the catch. We have playmakers that just need to be hit when they are open in a spot that let's them work after the catch and while Case has been ok at thag so far, that's just Teddy's bread and butter.

Good read on Keenum comparisons.

http://www.1500espn.com/vikings-2/2017/11/nfls-comparable-quarterbacks-case-keenum/

Interesting comment.

Keenum has started eight or more games in three different seasons. In 2013 with the Texans he was sacked 19 times in 8 games. In 2016 with the Rams he was sacked 23 times in 9 games. With the Vikings this season, he's only been sacked 7 times in 9 games. Maybe he was always this good but just didn't get decent protection with those other teams.

The McCown comp is interesting. He obviously wasn't the guy he looked like with that Bears loaded WR group but look at his numbers with some of the teams he has played with. After a failed year in TB he has gone on to play with some other poor teams. He is putting up some pretty solid numbers this year in particular with nobody of
Real note in terms of offensive skill players. His numbers his first year with the Browns were actually not too shabby. He hasn't been amazing but part of his problem is he has also gotten injured. I would be interested to see some comparisons going farther back in history than the last 5 years or so. IsKeenum a guy I would want to throw a mostly full Brinks truck at this offseason? No probably not but that doesn't mean he can't be successful in the right situation.
