I was reading an article today on Cameron Dantzler. I will just leave this tidbit here from it.

His most impressive work came against LSU's Ja'Marr Chase, in which he gave up just one catch for seven yards versus the future top 10 pick.

"I knew going into the LSU game that they had a great receiving corps, and their go-to guy was Ja'Marr Chase," Dantzler said.

Justin was not always facing the best coverage guy from other teams since he was the second-best WR on his team. Now to expect him to step in and be the #2 guy on an NFL team is a big ask.

Terry McLaurin comes to mind he wasn't even the 2nd best WR on his college team. :)

Yes and he was a third-round pick on a bad Redskins team. Ohio State seems to have a good WR program. LSU has been pretty good too, but not at the same level .

I am not saying he will be a bust. I don't see him being a star or teams best WR. That is what I would look for in the first round.

A 3rd round pick that had a very good rookie season on one of the worst offensive teams in the NFL. He Had a 3rd of their receiving yards and almost half of their receiving TDs in 14 games. He must be a stud having to face the top CBs all the time with basically nobody else needing to be covered. lol

Monster - It is like being the best player on a bad team in the NBA. Your stats are going to look better then you are. They didn't have any other options and they got a lot of prevent defense when being down. Most of his catches were in 4th quarter and 43 of his 58 catches are from when they are behind. He is a good player though with stud measurables. I don't see Jefferson having that big of an impact here.

So you went through all that and then still said he is a good player. =) I'd like to see the numbers of when he made his catches etc just to look up that kind of thing in the future. Personally I watched him play some in a few games. He looked like a good player. His targets were pretty low for his production also. Just for fun it would be interesting to know what percentage of time Washington was behind. I wouldn't be shocked if the number was nearly 70%. What were his numbers when he was playing with Keenum compared to Haskins? I'm more interested in how to find these numbers than making any point.

What are the reasons you think Jefferson isn't going to be all that good? There has to be more reason than his college role and QB. What is he lacking?

He doesn't have anything that stands out. Micahel Pittman Jr for example was not the best WR on his team either. When they played Utah Jaylon Johnson covered the other guy. I see Justin Jefferson and him as comparable, but Michael Jefferson Jr. has elite size.

This was the guy Jaylon Johnson was covering. I am guessing we will hear his name in the future.

Bates and Tyler Johnson had the same thing.

I really thought Tyler Johnson would have been a good pick. He and Adam Thelien seemed to have a connection off the field which would have helped. Either way, he landed in a great spot, but not running at the combine hurt. He had nothing to lose.

I do see Jefferson and Johnson being similar type players which is both good and bad. It does seem to me there is likely a difference in speed of the guys or at the very last as you mentioned it really hurt Johnson. Jefferson ran a sub 4.5 while Johnson didn't run. Yeah that's something that is going to differentiate guys especially in this WR class. To me the 40 times certainly isn't a an end lol be all. Tyler Johnson landed in a great spot and big value pick for the Bucs and Tom Brady. It sounds like Jefferson is a great kid and should be a pleasure to have on the roster. The Vikings have 12 total WRs out of 87 guys and it's not like there are lots of open spots although the PS spots are going to be more valuable to players and teams this year which could make things interesting when cuts are made. I could see some players sticking on a PS with the team that signed or drafted them if they feel like it was a god fit and they might be active on game day sometimes anyway.

Check out some of the video breakdowns of his route running. I've heard a few people say he is a great route runner. Route running is probably the most underrated aspect of playing WR in the NFL.
