I agree the defense is far from dominant, but giving the ball away three times doesn't help matters.
Seattle ran for 218 yards. The Vikings ran for not much. I think cook had 29 after he fumbled and got hurt in the middle 3rd quarter. Missing Thielen is tough too. You got Diggs and a 7th rounder in Bisi, a guy who can't play anywhere else (Treadwell). I've said it all year, if the Vikings can't run which they couldn't, they won't win. OLine wasn't getting holes open and the defense couldn't stop the run. I'm sort of surprised it was that close at the end looking at the stats.
The defense has to be better even with the turnovers. You give up that much yardage on the ground and then the QB's job is easy peasy. 37 points given up despite the turnovers won't win many games.
Rhodes has that dump penalty on that first TD drive for Seattle. I also swear they only call that some of the time it was annoying all around.
Rhodes has been ripped plenty but you have to ask yourself as the season progresses...is Linval worth that same kind of money? He came back last night and nothing looked different. Meanwhile that series when the D scored a TD Watts in and had an impact on every single play.
The defense has been a disappointment for me, I thought they would be top 5 again this season. Rhodes is done, Linval is not playing up to his money either. After last night they will drop out of the top 10 I'm sure. After getting run through like that, it's just disappointing.
The weird thing is that I think they showed last night they were the best 3rd down defense in the NFL coming into that game. We want elite but they are just pretty good. It wasn't that long ago when we would have been thrilled to get back to being pretty good. The question to me is can they keep building while some guys like Linval and Rhodes have dropped off...who could be next? They have 4 rookies playing a significant role in the offense right now. That unit could keep getting better and IF the defense stays pretty good that might end up being...pretty good. Can they get the oline to where it needs to be? That's been the question for a while...
