Case starts against the Rams and unless he's awful he stars on the short week against the lions and then you make your decision for the rest of the year. That gives Teddy a full two months of practice. (basically a training camp)

What do you ask of a QB espcially one that has a good defense? Take care of the ball while making enough plays. Keenum has done a pretty good job overall although he now has 4 straight weeks throwing an INT which make up his 5 total on the season. Starting QBs do end up throwing INTs though but Case is trending the wrong direction. He also has zero fumbles and has taken 5 sacks all year. He hasn't been sacked 1 time since week 3. There is some stat I heard that drives that include a sack the chances of it ending in scoring points goes down a bunch which makes sense. So not having sacks is kind of a big deal. The oline should get plenty of credit but Keenum has done his job there too moving around and having good awareness after struggling against the Steelers and a poor call against the Lions. PPF early this month had him as the 3rd best QB throwing out of the pocket. They have him rated at #18 QB with an average grade. That's a spectacular performance considering his is the backup. The Vikings through all this are basically #10 ranked offense. Not bad all things considered not bad at all. I think there are signs it's a good offense regardless but I do think Keenum deserves credit for having a hand in the success. IF....he keeps playing well it won't be easy to give Teddy a start/s if the games still matter. I agree Case has handled this well. He is doing his job.

I wouldn't say Case is trending in the wrong direction just because he's been intercepted in three straight games. As I recall one of those was tipped, but should have been caught so that would be 2 out of 3 games where it was on him. The two yesterday to me looked like throws by a guy who was feeling his oats a bit more than he should have. Case deserves a lot of credit for how explosive this offense has been, his ability to move around has been responsible for numerous long completions and he's done an exceptional job of moving the offense. Yes the line deserves huge kudos for their play, but the lack of sacks is every bit as much Case as it is the line.

Case isn't the kind of QB who is going to put a team on his back and carry them to a championship IMO. Even so, he's far better than Trent Dilfer was, and with the Vikings defense, special teams, and offensive talent he could, possibly, maybe, manage them that far. Of course if the coaches believe Teddy has elite ability then they have to make the move soon IMO. Teddy is going to need 4-5 games to get back in the swing of things, you don't want to go into the playoffs with a cold QB!!

What's funny about the situation is that last year around this time we were looking forward to a time when this team would have two quality QB's on the roster, Sam and Teddy. Here we are today and we still have two quality QB's in Case and Teddy! The great thing about this QB debate is I'm not concerned with whatever choice Zimmer makes, for once I have confidence in both players!

I agree with what you are saying here. I was just trying to be balanced about Keenum. I mean he went from zero INTs to 5 in 4 games. That's not bad but it is trending the wrong direction. He has had at least one throw that probably should have been picked off during that stretch. Like I said starting QBs throw picks it's what happens.

Don't forget that Dilfer was a pro bowl QB one year! Lol

Honestly he has two all pro receivers the offensive line pass blocking wise is one of the best this year. Also has a solid running game and with that all being said he's the #18 rank Qb. Yes last game he threw 4 Tds but he had 3-4 blatant overthrows that should've been pick plus the two he actually did throw. He's had two good games agains Tampa and Redskins, but besides that he's been extremely mediocre. I might be on the Teddy bandwagon but I rather have the guy we drafted to be our franchise Qb who can be at the same mediocre level if not better be our Qb. Also Teddy would thrive in Shurmur it's the same type of system they ran at Louisville.

I have never been fully aboard the Case train. I think the offense has been excellent as far as play calling and design. The pass blocking has improved ten fold since Teddy was playing and so have the WR's.

I'd like to see Teddy back in at some point unless Case can play consistently at a high level. He's done a great job, for a backup. He's not a great QB. My hook on Case would be ready, my feeling is he isn't good enough to beat the good teams like the Eagles.

My thoughts are go Case against the Rams so they dont get to see Teddy befor playoffs and then have Teddy start against Lions. He could be putting in work for that game now.

Case is less of a train to get on and is more like that $1000 or less car you bought to get you through a few months of getting back and forth to work. After also having to take it on a couple lengthy exectpected road trips and it's performed well and you now sorta like it. lol

Here's an excellent article looking at Case's play this season!

Bottom line
Considering his solid play over the first half of this year, there's a great chance that Keenum could lead the Vikings to a division title and continue to play at a fairly high level, but recent history doesn't give him much of a shot against former Super Bowl winners, league MVPs and up-and-coming star quarterbacks.

However, Keenum has done an excellent job leading a team that is in win-now mode. Many teams would have fallen apart when losing their starter for all but six quarters of the first nine games.

How does a team make a qb change in the midst of its best season since 09? Keemun has good chemistry with his wrs while sustaining a lot of clock eating drives giving a championship caliber def plenty of rest. If the team was meddling around .500 and Rodgers was healthy for the Pack I'd be all for seeing where teddies at. What if he's not ready? Willing to sacrifice a loss or two when a playoff bye is there for the taking?
It's not like we're bringing a guy like Rodgers back in to the fold. Teddy wasn't a sure fire starter before the injury.

We talked earlier about what the Vikes should do this offseason with Teddy still an unknown, Sam barely able to stay healthy, and Keenum a career backup. One of the players that was thrown around was Kirk Cousins, who single handedly handed the Saints a win after being up big today. Keenum has no special ability, but surrounded by the right talent and with the right coaches all he does is win!

They said Zimmer expected Keenum would falter last week and they would turn the team over to Teddy then, now Case has lead the team to six consecutive victories! If you're Zim and Speilman and you believe Teddy is the better answer over the next 4 years but Case continues leading this team to wins, potentially big playoff wins, you're going to have a big question to answer this offseason!!

What Case has been able to do that's impressive (considering he is supposed to just be a backup) is extend plays and get out of trouble using his athletic ability and then also make some throws. Its now back to back 70% completion weeks for him. He wasn't amazing today but he also was backed up a bunch of times with penalties and overcame them a few times and gained a few yards drawing the Rams offsides.

I'm glad I don't have to make the decision of what to do with these QBs and while having the information they have that I don't is probably good for making the decision...I don't think it's gonna be easy. The Detroit game is a big one. Honestly I don't see how you can play Teddy in that game you NEED to win over Case.
