Ouch! I think they were the team they hoped would trade for Harris.

I think in a 3-4 you would be rushing Hunter and Barr a lot and they would have the responsibility to sniff out screens. It would certainly be a zone blitz. I don't think we would ever see him being tasked with covering anyone man to man. I would think this would be great against the run for us. I think it would all come down to what we would do at DE and who we draft. If we draft a LB that can play 3 downs we would be in good shape. Zach Braun would be a great fit for us and could be there in second.

Reiff is overpaid, Barr probably cost the Vikings 1-2 mill per more by them waiting to re-sign him, Rudolph is the 4th highest paid TE in the league, and now over 20m in dead money this year... meanwhile they have multiple holes in the secondary to fill along with DE, OG, WR. oof, sure hope they hit big on their top 5 picks.
I'm also waiting for the Harris domino. They either keep him on his tag (if he leaves in 2021, then get a 2022 comp), re-sign him to a long term deal, trade him or release his tag and end up with a comp pick in 2021.
Also really hoping Reiff gets reworked.

If they were going to run a 3-4 Shamar would have been let go. He is still here they aren't running a 3-4 defense. I think they are going to do some experimenting though. Can you imagine those 2 old D coaches watching film together? Adam Zimmer and Patterson will have fun bouncing ideas off of Dom Capers.

I don't think most of their contracts were overpaid at the time, but rather the players are no longer playing up to their former levels.
As for the cap catching up to them, it happens to everybody, even the Patriots who always get ring chasers on bargain contracts are hard up against the cap without a starting QB. The Patriots are also well known for letting players go as they come up for contracts or trading them rather than giving out massive contracts, yet they're still hurting in terms of cap space.
Personally I'm kinda happy with things so far in that they're going to be getting younger quickly. That may lower their ceiling next season but let's be honest, they weren't winning a SB with this team anyways.
