Backup QB for 2017

Post by bleedspeed »

We started talking about this on another thread. Good read on the breakdown of the options. I was all for going after a guy like Foles that signed with the Eagles,

I'm an unabashed TJ Yates fan.

Yeah and he seems like he would come cheap.

Gabbert I think could be a decent backup. One advantage to him is he is a passer but is also pretty good athlete too.

Those long shot guys...yuck I'd probably take Kap out of all of them if I HAD to pick one but I'd rather pick a rookie than any of them. Kap probably doesn't fit what this team is trying to do though. I guess we don't know for sure Nassib sucks...but he probably does.

Again we aren't sure what type of system this team is planning to run that makes a big difference when you look at backups.

Kap is actually a decent idea. He likes the ball out of the gun....and can run for his life (lol). M/SP may be more forgiving of his views than other markets, and maybe has something left.

But if too expensive, I've always like Yates.

The other day on the local ESPN station the local guys were talking about the New QBs for Nebraska. The team is running a pro style (or wants to) offense and these guys are supposed to be more pure passers. Tommie Armstrong has been their starter for 3+ years and is now graduating. One of the locals guys said that the new guys throw the ball to receivers. Tommie threw the ball at them. He had plenty of arm but he was just a really good athlete that could chuck the ball. These other guys probably will make better sections lead players with the ball etc. it made me think of Kap the guy just seems to wind up and sling the ball it just goes at WRs. I don't know how catchable a ball it is. He hasn't been in great situatuons the past couple years so I'd say make he still has a shot at being something but I don't know if the Vikings system is it. Isn't Geno Smith available too? Remember when these duel threat QBs were all that and the NFL is changing? I never really bought it. It seems like it's as much or more of a passing league as it was 3 years ago.
