I HATE PELFREY
I can't stand this guy. I wish we would have traded him for peanuts. Every time this guy takes the mound and the Twins give him a lead, he blows it. It gets really annoying. Blame the Tommy John, blame the pitching coach. I don't care. Pelfrey always pisses me off.

Re: I HATE PELFREY
This is one you and I have completely different views on, Cam. While there are things about Pelfrey that I don't love (his pace with runners on base and, at times, his control), I love what he is doing as a guy just a year away from TJ surgery. In his last ten games he has allowed more than 3 runs (runs, not earned runs) in only 2 of those games. Unfortunately the Twins have scored more than 3 runs in only 3 of those 10 games, and all were wins. Pelfrey isn't getting any wins because the team isn't scoring for him. But as I mentioned in another thread, it's encouraging that he had a 3.25 ERA in 5 July starts.
Pelfrey has struggled with his control his entire career and I don't expect that to change much. For that reason his pitch count will get high quickly, and it will be difficult for him to go deep in games. But if he continues to keep runners from scoring like he has in his last ten starts, he gives his team a chance to win...especially with the best bullpen in baseball. I have played a lot of baseball in my life, and I can tell you that it's not comfortable digging in against a guy who is 6'7", can get the ball up there at 93MPH, and a little wild. Pelfrey is only 29, and if his post TJ recovery results continue, I see him as filing that 4/5 starter rule for several years.

Re: I HATE PELFREY
Cam, how do you rank the five most recent Twins starters (I'm including Diamond since we can't evaluate Albers yet). I would go:
Deduno
Pelfrey
Gibson
Correia
Diamond
Diamond has already been sent down and has to be 5th. Correia is going in the opposite direction of Pelfrey with a 6.12 ERA last month and getting shelled again tonight in KC. Gibson was worse in July at 6.91, but I actually like the way he is throwing the ball so I have him ahead of Correia. Deduno is obviously the staff ace, so that leaves Pelfrey in my number 2 spot.
Do you have him ranked lower than our second starter?
I know that says a lot about the state of our starting pitching, but Pelfrey clearly isn't our biggest problem at the moment.

Re: I HATE PELFREY
Long ik you give stats to back up Pelfery but I just hate this guy too. You ever think the reason he does get run help is because he puts his team to sleep because he takes so long to pitch.
Re: I HATE PELFREY
Pelfery has lowered his ERA every month this year and had a nice July. Its going to be interesting to see how he finishes up the year. He seems to REALLY want to come back so it shouldn't take much money to do so. In case anyone has noticed this team has almost no starting pitching and Pelfery could be a legit 4th starter for us which would be nice. He could end up being one of the few things that has gone well for this team when the season is all said and done. We shall see though there is plenty of baseball left for him to implode.

Re: I HATE PELFREY
Lol I'd go Deduno, Greg Maddux (Albers lol), Correa, Pelfrey, Gibson.
I really just don't like anything about Pelfrey. There's no stat you can give me that would change my mind unless he went undefeated the rest of the year, and I'd bet my right testicle that doesn't happen.

Heard this on the common man progrum couple months ago. Someone was talking to Pelfery about a bad outing. Pelfrey said "well how many MLB batters have you gotten out." Common replied just a few less than you apparently lol
