I don't like Simmons personally, and his mocking of Kahn got a little tiring (hey, that's our job to mock our guys :) ), but his basketball writing has grown on me. Robson tweeted some very positive comments about Simmons just a few days ago.

I like Simmons a lot. I respect when anyone acknowledges their bias. He is a fan who loves basketball. I can relate to that. Yes, he does have fun picking on the Wolves. But we have to face the reality of just how bad we have been for so long. The fact that we have even debated Kahn v McHale hurts to even think about when both were historically bad GMs. It is frustrating that the national media writes off our optimism. But I can't blame them and yet again they were right this year.

I dig a lot of Simmons' stuff. And I'm definitely not in the "they're out to get us" or "we get no respect" camps when it comes to Wolves or hometown criticism. But, didn't he lobby for the GM gig here? Then, with the disaster of Kahn (another former sportswriter even)... the criticism almost seemed personal.

In hindsight, Simmons' lobbying was seen as a joke. But was it? After all, was Kahn THAT much more seasoned for the role? He had a decent business acumen or so we were told. But as a basketball GM?

[Note: By the way, no NBA team has deserved to be mocked more than the Wolves over the past decade. Although, Dave Gilbert's silliness in Cleveland has given the Wolves a run for the money.]
