Malik Beasley suspended
Re: Malik Beasley suspended
He would be in jail if it were any of us. 12 games is a slap on the wrist.
Do not give one shit about this.

He still has 120 days of jail after the season (don't expect improvement from Beasley next year because that is his offseason), no alcohol or drugs for 3 years. Also never allowed to own a gun again.

Beasley will serve out his sentence at the county workhouse or home confinement. If it's the latter then we can still expect him to get plenty of shots up in the off-season considering he has a basketball court and gym at his residence. Oh, the perks of being rich and well-known with access to top notch attorneys.

There is a huge difference between the workhouse and home confinement. I'd rather be in a penitentiary than the workhouse.

Wolves IG:
"Jaylen Nowell has scored in double figures off the bench in eight games this month, while shooting 38.1% from three."
I'm leaving this fun-but-meaningless stat here because I think Nowell will be the guy that gets a significant bump in playing time with Malik Beasley being suspended. My hope is that he continues to display a natural scoring ability as well as a reliable outside shot. It's been mentioned before in the past, but it's conceivable that Nowell could replace Beasley on this roster at some point for whatever reason -- perhaps if Beasley were included in a trade package for a bigger fish -- and this is setting up to be a trial run in a way.

Totally agree. I don't think Nowell quite has the flamethrower game that Beasley has from outside, but Beasley himself took a few years to get this prolific. I also think Nowell may have slightly better handles and passing chops. We'll see what he does with this opportunity. Culver will likely be pushing him for minutes, but we need Nowell's scoring.

Even if he's in the workhouse he can get a work release to go work out and practice, since that is his actual job.

I haven't gotten to see Nowell get any of these minutes he has been getting recently but he is averaging over 20ppg per 36. That is nothing to sneeze at. Beasley has been on fire and he is averaging 22ppg per 36. I'm a big fan of Nowell it would be really nice if he turned into a nice SG. He does have a better ball handling and playmaking base of skill than Beasley. If he really hits I could see him being a Malcom Brogdon type player which would be fantastic.
Re: Malik Beasley suspended
I was naively surprised when the original Beasley story came out. I've always admired his work ethic on the court and his straightforward respectful demeanor in addressing the media. There is a thug element in the NBA, but I wouldn't have had Beas in that group. Well, it turns out he is, and he did a very stupid thing that fortunately didn't end tragically...I think we all can agree that drugs and guns is not an ideal safe combination. So he deserves what he got, and I'm on board with the in-season suspension (although I admit to some occasional disingenuousness, so my opinion might have been different if we were actually competing this year ;) ).
So for Wolves fans the more relevant issue is what do the Wolves do now, and I'm actually excited about it. I've been a big advocate for moving defensively-challenged Beas to the bench to better hide his defensive futility and add his scoring off the bench...I'm a little tired of consistently giving up 30+ points in the first quarter. DLO's potential return exacerbates the defensive issue, because my 2 grandmothers and I could score efficiently on a DLO/Beas/Ant trio (my paternal GM does have some game). So I agree with the thought here that this means more minutes for Nowell. These next 12 games should mean at least 25-30 minutes per game for him, and will give us (and the Wolves coaching staff) the opportunity to see if he can upgrade our defense and improve his inconsistent shooting. I would like to see a healthy Culver replace Ant at SF in the starting lineup too, but that's another matter and off point for this thread.
