2021 NBA Draft
Re: 2021 NBA Draft
I've decided to fully invest in the hopes of retaining our pick this year. I know the disappointment will be excruciating but it makes these losses easier to take. TANK Rosas

Oh man this upcoming lottery is going to hurt really really bad lol. I have absolutely zero faith that we will get a top three pick

Anyone see what Cade Cunningham did against No. 2 Baylor in the upset? 20 second half points. Kid is an absolute stud.

That said, there is a reality that we have a glut of guards right now. DLo is a killer for us. I would take both players over DLo today, but can you really play these guys over DLo and his contract? Imagine the dysfunction. And I also see ANT as a long-term SG, howver, he can certainly play SF. So maybe this works.
I am hoping that one of the guys FNG mentions come to top (Kuminga and Mobley specifically), as they could certainly fit with their skillsets. Both are really intriguing guys, and certainly will be worthy of top 3-5 in draft.
Cade Cunningham is 6'8" and 220-pounds while being an above average athlete at those measurements. His body type is similar to that of Jayson Tatum who plays the three in most lineups for the Celtics. I think he'd slide in at the three for the Wolves seamlessly.
Cunningham is also the clear-cut top talent in this class from my view and I'd be shuffling other players out before I chose someone over him due to fit.
I'll press you to your own presented corner now.
Even D'LO?

If that was a move that was required to not only acquire Cade Cunningham, but to also make his game better, then yes, absolutely. I think Cunningham is going to be a franchise player sooner rather than later.
Also, I'm not married to the idea of D'Angelo Russell in Minnesota. I just think he's a proven young player that has more positives than he does negatives within his game and I liked the deal that acquired him while also getting Andrew Wiggins off the payroll. Russell at his best is better than Wiggins at his, and my thinking was that Minnesota would be surrendering a late lottery pick or mid-first in that trade -- ie. the team would win more games than they have. That hasn't been the case for many reasons. The Wolves must keep their pick this year.

You answered honestly; I cannot argue with any of that.
I pray we keep our pick this year and give up a 14+ pick next season. I am not confident in that take, but one has to have hope.
I still cannot believe Towns and D'Lo have played under 10 games together. Nobody would have bet on that.

Lottery protected or not I still like our future more now with those odds than finishing with 28-30 wins and still missing the playoffs. Realistically, what were we really rooting for this year? Looking back, most were banking on Culver and Okogie being difference makers. Seems ridiculous now.

How about just not going backwards? Because not only are they not progressing they have regressed. Culver struggled a bit then got hurt and hurt again. Rubio was a disaster and JO is completely worthless on offense except for an occasional rebound or layup if he's wide open.
I don't think it was ridiculous to just expect small progression rather then major regression from multiple players.
Re: 2021 NBA Draft
I'm totally in love with this draft the more I watch the top college and G League guys...so much better than last year. I know we talk about DLO way too much here, but the closer we get to ping pong ball night, the more I hate Rosas for the Wiggins deal (even as I warm up to him overall for his moves to bring in McDaniels, Nowell, Beasley, Vando and Rubio...and maybe Ant). Cunningham/Suggs plus Wig (or what Wig could have brought us in a trade) has to be better than DLO alone. doesn't it?
Anyway, since we are likely to have a 40% chance of getting a top 3 pick, it's still relevant to discuss this draft. Like most others, I love Cunningham too...with one caveat. Before yesterday's superb game against Baylor, he had averaged almost 6 turnovers a game his previous 5 games, and has averaged more than 4 per game for the season. 6 turnovers! That's not good. I might make the same argument that I make for Ant...he's not going to be used in the pros the way he is in college...he's almost like a PG with OSU in that he handles the ball so much, but I think he is going to be a SF or SG in the pros playing with a real PG . Terrific shooter, rebounder and defender, but a little careless with the ball. But if he is used properly in the pros, his TOs will be greatly reduced, and I think he will be an instant contributor.
I actually like Suggs as much as Cunningham in this draft. He's not the 3-point shooter Cade is, but he's not bad, and my eye test (and a lot of stats) tell me he really has no significant flaws in his game. Whoever is lucky enough to get the first pick in the draft can choose one or the other based on need. If it's the Warriors (with the pick Rosas gave them to acquire Russell, dammit), they almost certainly will choose Cunningham. How do you like Curry, Thompson, Cunningham, Green and Wiseman (if he can get out of Kerr's doghouse) with Wig coming off the bench?

Re: 2021 NBA Draft
It's already been said before, but if we're including Cade Cunningham or Jalen Suggs into our thought process on the D'Angelo Russell trade, then we're not being rational thinkers. Those two are both going top-three in all likelihood and Minnesota will not miss out on the opportunity to draft them due to the slim protection on that pick. The Wolves lose their pick if they draft fourth overall or later. Neither player was going to be available at that draft slot anyway.
