2021 NBA Draft
So I decided to take a peek at the 2021 Draft prospects, and I'm sure some of you already are aware of all the top names, but one thing I couldn't help but notice that one of the elite prospects, Jalen Suggs, is from St Paul (Minnehaha Academy). He's currently NBADraft.net's #1 prospect. NBADraft.net often throws lofty comparisons so I take it with a grain of salt, but the comparison they use is Jason Kidd.
Could a hometown kid from St Paul save the Minnesota Timberwolves and Karl Towns while opening up a trade possibility for Russell to bring us back into the 2022 1st round?
I know there's a good chance we don't end up with our 2021 pick, depending on lotto luck, and quite frankly I'm not sure which draft is better (my understanding is the 2021 draft is pretty strong, while the 2022 draft is basically a double-draft in terms of talent due to the age rule change), but it definitely got my wheels turning.

I really like Suggs and Cunningham. I think Suggs is just a winner, who is a floor general and a good athlete (his shot is questionable though). Cunningham is a 6'8 point forward who can score at all 3 levels. If the wolves can get either of those guys I feel like they are franchise changers (obviously as a wolves fan we here that all the time)
Just a note rules haven't changed m 2022 isn't a double draft and I'm pretty positive the earliest a double draft can happen now is 2023. (Emoni Bates is the prize). Rumors keep coming but it keeps getting pushed back year after year
Re: 2021 NBA Draft
I can't help drooling when I look at the talent at the top of this year's draft. 2020 was supposed to be a meh draft, and several rookies are proving the experts wrong. It's fun to imagine what the ceiling might be for some of this years studs.
Yeah, Suggs and Cunningham are terrific. But the early returns for G League players Jalen Green and Jonathan Kuminga have been very good, especially Kuminga who is still only 18. And USC 7 footer Evan Mobley is looking a lot like a James Wiseman clone.
We still have a chance to get one of these guys, but only if this season continues to be the disaster it has been so far.

Re: 2021 NBA Draft
I have seen Suggs and Cunningham a bunch of times this season. They are both awesome. And I believe they are the best 2 prospects in this draft.
That said, there is a reality that we have a glut of guards right now. DLo is a killer for us. I would take both players over DLo today, but can you really play these guys over DLo and his contract? Imagine the dysfunction. And I also see ANT as a long-term SG, howver, he can certainly play SF. So maybe this works.
I am hoping that one of the guys FNG mentions come to top (Kuminga and Mobley specifically), as they could certainly fit with their skillsets. Both are really intriguing guys, and certainly will be worthy of top 3-5 in draft.

You are quite the optimist!

Cade Cunningham is 6'8" and 220-pounds while being an above average athlete at those measurements. His body type is similar to that of Jayson Tatum who plays the three in most lineups for the Celtics. I think he'd slide in at the three for the Wolves seamlessly.
Cunningham is also the clear-cut top talent in this class from my view and I'd be shuffling other players out before I chose someone over him due to fit.

If the Wolves are lucky enough to keep their pick, which means a top three pick, It would be a huge mistake to worry what DLO or anyone else on the team would think or how who we draft might impact their place in the rotation. When you have a top three pick, you take the best prospect and go from there. It will be easy if the Wolves have the top pick because the no-brained choice in my view would be Cade Cunningham. He's a franchise talent - the only franchise talent in the draft. At 6'8 he could easily fit at SF and effectively become a point forward. DLO could slot in as an off-ball scorer, which is a better role for him. Then Beasley and Edwards could battle for the starting SG position with the runner-up serving as our 6th man scoring punch off the bench. If he doesn't fit well with DLO, then I'd move DLO for a matching contract bench player and 2nd round pick, which is probably the best we could do.
Re: 2021 NBA Draft
I have fully accepted that we lose this pick no matter where we finish. We had our luck last year, we are due two more decades of not keeping our position or moving up.
Re: 2021 NBA Draft
Still hoping we can get 2 rounder in trade and pick up Kofi Coburn.

They're gonna lose the pick this year and I hope it happens.
If they keep the pick, take Kuminga. Mobley fits a need but man I'd rather have Wiseman/Cunningham or Kuminga than Edwards/Mobley.
Otherwise their main focus should be on getting the best two UDFA's on two way deals and they MUST be a wing and a big.
The 2022 draft offers more options in a post-Towns world. The Wolves can draft Holmgren or Wembanyama and draft Montero as their future PG.
