The fit with management's vision and play style as well as the personnel already on roster makes a lot of sense to me. Not to mention, he's already proven that he can lead an imperfect team to the playoffs albeit in the Eastern Conference. There's also familiarity with D'Angelo Russell and Pablo Prigioni for good measure.
The only thing standing in the way is Flip Saunders' son and ownership.
I agree, He's be the perfect head coach for the Wolves right now and a huge step up from Ryan. However, I agree with Monster that if Rosas really wanted to replace Ryan with Kenny, Glen would let him. So I think Rosas bears part of the responsibility for our head coaching situation.
I think Ryan Saunders is the perfect coach for the Wolves right now.
IF I'm Rosas. Here's why...
You need to extend your time if you're in charge of a long re-re-rebuild for as long as possible. So you're going to need some bodies to throw to the proverbial wolves along the way. Here's the procession of victims and how they're lining up for the executive team:
1. You can blame the first season on the previous regime. This lets you set the bar super low for a long rebuild to buy you more time. If your best player gets hurt... and the season is effectively cancelled to a pandemic... voila... you might get 2+ years out of this prey.
2. If that's not enough time, you have a coach... a really good guy, a great guy even, a hard tireless worker... but one who's only been able to take the team so far. That's ok. Now, it's time to hand the team over to a more veteran leader. A guy with a new vision.
3. You can't judge that new coach in only one season! He needs two seasons to get "his guys" and "his system" in there and to rid himself of the Saunders stench... as stories about Saunders' inexperience hit the social media sphere in droves all of a sudden.
4. It's not working with KAT and/or Russell. As the only constant during the entire era of crappy Wolves hoops... it's obviously KAT's fault. He's got to go. And with him out of the way, the team can properly re-re-re-re-build with a very analytics-driven approach from the one and only Rosas.
This is not to suggest Rosas sucks running the Wolves. This is only to suggest that if Rosas is indeed smart and wants to keep his high-profile, millions of dollars gig despite the team's continued struggles... this is the path staring us all in the face.

My goodness Abe, whatever is it about this franchise and the NBA that made you so cynical!

The only thing I disagree with is calling his job high profile.

My only takeaway from this post is never take anything Abe says at face value, dude is playing 4D chess!
