Re: Tim Connley
I can't remember who the connection is but it seems like Tim Connelly had a relationship with someone with the Wolves years ago. It probably doesn't matter but now it's driving me nuts trying to remember what it was or who I'm thinking of that it actually is.
I don't love every move the Nuggets have made the past few years but yeah I would take Connelly over Gupta. Heck maybe Gupta stays for a while. It's not like he is losing the top job to some guy that's nearly his equal he is losing it to one of the best GMs around. If Gupta stays and the Wolves take big steps he might be in demand the next time there are openings. Connelly seems like a guy if you work under him that's a good thing.
If we get Connelly I'll also be happy for Calvin Booth.

That's really impressive. I mean, ridiculously impressive. The Jokic pick by itself is a homerun. He had one of the greatest regular seasons ever - at least statistically.
2020 wasn't very fruitful, but otherwise, he got legit starting level talent or solid rotation guys in every single draft. Murray was a blossoming star until he got hurt and Jokic is an MVP. In 2018 he drafted two guys that are now starting PFs.
Hell, we've already benefited from him! Two of these guys were key players for us this past season!
I'm sold!

I don't know, Q. I think the Hernangomez pick negates Jokic and all the other picks. :)

Juancho being the worst player of a bunch of draft successes seems pretty good. :) They traded Beasley and Juancho away partly because they were deep and didn't really need them...and Denver's ownership has seemed pretty disinterested in paying any luxury tax. I remember a few years ago they basically paid a first round pick to get off salary and I think the player wasn't worthless.. That might have something to do with why Connelly is willing to come here. I know the Wolves have also stayed out of the Lux tax too but I think that isn't going to stay the case for too much longer if the Wolves continue to improve but who knows.

And seriously, drafting Juancho at #15 wasn't a particularly bad move at the time.
One theme that keeps repeating in the articles I've been reading is that Denver's ownership is pretty cheap. But they did step up and match or exceed the Wizards' offer to Connelly back in 2019 and they might do it again here. Connelly is apparently in the option year of his contact. So, as some have speculated, Connelly might simply be using the Wolves to solicit a better deal from the Nuggets. An ownership stake might be a bridge too far for the Nuggets' organization.
Re: Tim Connley
Here are some of Connley miss steps.
Have MPJ a max before he had to (I do think there is some hindsight there)
Traded Donavan Mitchell on draft night.
But all in all he is a really good POBO. Will they give him ownership stake we will see.
*I'm 99% joking here but Jokic is a free agent next year, wolves have max cap space if they want it..... interesting

Good points, kek. The Donovan Mitchell trade was certainly a misstep. No one bats .1000, but that was a pretty big swing and miss.

Drafting Tyler Lydon instead was pretty terrible. There is an actual bad draft pick for Connelly.
Re: Tim Connley
Is this happening then? Usually when stuff like this is reported there isn't a ton of down time before it becomes official.
I'm getting Dennis Lindsay and Dave Joerger vibes, the longer this drags on. Nothing quite like our favorite team being used for leverage.
